Spent my first night as a resident here last night and I gotta tell you, despite the wind nearly melting my face off, I love it here. Just the vibe I've been looking for after decades in the mid Atlantic hellscape.

Welcome to God's Country.   Where did you finally settle?

I was wondering how a board name I don't recognize has 58K posts. Then it came to me.

And I've relegated myself to one drink a night for 6 nights of the week, unless I go out, at a gig, etc, so alcohol is no longer an excuse.

Glad you found yourself! It is beautiful there.

I can conclusively say that's untrue.

It really is. If I take a left out of my driveway and go about 500 feet up a small hill, it turns out I have an INCREDIBLE view out over Fredonia/Dunkirk with the lake taking up almost the whole horizon.

Thinking of taking pictures of it in all four seasons and getting the photos matted and framed.

Plenty of freighter traffic heading to and from the Welland Canal.  In the past couple of years, cruise ships have started visiting the Great Lakes after many years absent.

Marinetraffic.com is a fine website that allows you to figure out for free which ships you're seeing.  You can buy a subscription that gives additional features, but the free version serves me just fine with basics as to what ship it is, and where it's going.

Unless they are trying to confuse us with SeaWayMax boats that aren't really SeaWayMax...😉

FWIW... MarineTraffic is based out of Cyprus🇨🇾  Ok... Just looked it up: Athens, Greece🇬🇷...  I use it on my phone for personal use.  Work's system is in-house🇺🇸.

There's a nice hike on the old trolley tracks path between Barcelona on Lake and Mayville on L.Chautauqua:

Abandoned rail corridors.  We would hike a few in Scouts as preparation for going to Philmont in New Mexico...

I suppose they are better preserved and maintained today...
