True.  My point was that the Catholic league schools downstate have to compete a lot harder for top players because of the number of schools. Iona hardly has a monopoly on them.

I watch the games. This game wasn't great HS football.

Have you ever watched C football in New York?

That's not great high School football lol there actually are some solid C schools too

Iona has a kid going to North Carolina there's literally 150 New York schools who don't have one player of that caliber

You're comparing it to Texas ball or big time Pennsylvania ball or Georgia football yeah it's not that level

New York at that level is still better than 15 maybe 20 states depending on year

it would make no sense to compare any top NY high school team to 150 other NY schools. The topic here is the game pitting the top 2 Catholic schools.

the fact that Iona has a kid headed to NC doesn’t mean the quality of the game was better. But yes comparing to Texas or Georgia etc is what I was getting at.  It’s not at that high school level…

Of course it's not at the Texas or Georgia level

But I wouldn't say it's bad football...

I still scout HS ball in the mid Atlantic region from NY and PA to NJ and Delaware to Maryland and you will see a mixed bag from top 25 nationally to not great

Don Bosco and Bergen are terrific in NJ .. but not all is that level

5A 6A Texas and Georgia ball , that just breeds a higher level competition..

Having more schools, smaller divisions does water down the competition a bit and spread out the talent

Compared to super teams you see in Texas or Georgia

but even Iona prep has put out a good amount of division 1 football players The last 5 years... That is a good football program .. there's a reason why they are number one in the state

They have more than one kid that has D1 offers. They have an edge rusher with an offer from Army, another edge rusher with an offer from Boston College & Syracuse, a 6’9 OT with an offer from Syracuse, a Jr LB with an offer from UB. The QB is committed to play baseball at Maryland……that team is a power house. Not sure why that other guy is tryna downplay Iona Prep?

In my original post I said there was definitely  5+ division 1 football players on the field when I was talking about it with weo

Whether FCS or FBS

Iwould never say the football talent on the field for that game between both teams was mediocre

I've seen them twice this year and I thought they were really good.. not top 25 National but still really good

I lived in Section V for over 30 years, left around 2008.  Can recall many years the regular season games started Labor Day and weekend ended around Columbus Day weekend, then sectionals started and usually the state championship was over Thanksgiving weekend, think they played like 7 regular season games.  Live in NC now and the season there starts a week earlier and most years the state championship would end the weekend before Christmas.  Same in Florida and I'm sure Texas follows a similar schedule.

Sounds like NY has extended their season some from what was played when i left in 2008, but still can't compete wit these other states in length of the season and the more games you play, over time, players improve.

Out of curiosity, did you happen to scout a kid from Monroe High School in Rochester by the name of Messiah Hampton?

I was at All-High the other day for the Far West Regionals and I watched Hampton against Lackawanna. He's going to play at Oregon next season as a receiver. I noticed most that he had unbelievable body control, really pro-level stuff. He needs to fill out some in the weight room, but I thought Hampton was a great prospect.

Yeah I've seen him three times over the last couple years

He's definitely the number one player in the state in my eyes this class

Oregon got a great guy and I think he fits their system perfectly.. his speed body control fluidity in and out breaks

I actually couldn't make it to that far West regional game I was in Northern Pennsylvania... How was the game?

Pretty crazy that Hampton is playing in a B class school.. he's a terror at that level

But at all the regional camps literally held his own and was making plays on four star guys and five star guys... Cementing himself as one of the best playmakers in the class.. like balling on high major prospects

All college football powerhouses. Oh, wait?

And more money: This is the new stadium for Buford High School, an Atlanta suburb:

https://www.si.com/high-school/georgia/buford-ga-s-62-million-dollar-football-stadium-is-officially-open-01k16ngde830

Buford High School's new football stadium, named Philip Beard Stadium, is a $62 million facility with 10,000 seats, 15 luxury suites, and a large double-sided video board. The stadium is city-owned and leased by the school district and also serves as a multi-purpose event venue. The project was necessitated by the school's large and growing student population and high-performing football team, which drew large crowds to previous games.

The stadium cost $62 million to build, making it the most expensive high school football venue in Georgia. The City of Buford fully funded the project, using revenue from its natural gas and electric distribution entities and a large commercial tax base.

Features:

Seating: 10,000 total seats, including 1,000 premium seats and 15 luxury suites.

Scoreboard: A large, double-sided video board is one of the largest for a high school in the country.

Fieldhouse: A two-story fieldhouse contains the locker rooms.
