Week in and week out I keep hearing about how they just missed winning and how things aren’t really that bad. My TV must not be set to its optimal picture settings for these games because from what I see, it looks bad. Really, really bad

Nine turnovers in three games-- -2 on the season compared to +24 last year.  Explains much.  Details:

 

1. Poor game plan/poor calls-- Brady called too many plays that took too long to develop and did not adjust when pass rush was hot.  Poor individual play calls, particularly the 4th and 1 call that failed.  Not a shining hour.

 

2.  Josh-- reverted to making poor decisions and trying to do too much.  Some of the lowlights include the hit from behind that caused Josh to hurt his shoulder. He had an open field to run to get a first, and two receivers open for a quick throw for a first.  Instead, he slows and tries to reset his feet for a long throw, and the lack of awareness almost got him killed.  First pic was a terrible decision to force pass into coverage, when he had easy throws to both Davis and Cook.  Although not all the sacks were his fault, he held the ball instead of throwing it away on several or made silly decisions as in running backward on the -18 sack. Another Miami-like game.

 

3. McDermott-- Has become almost too aggressive chasing points.  If he kicked the FG on the failed 4th and 1 run with Cook, score would have been 23-22 late and an FG would have won it.  In a tight game, points matter.

 

4. Conclusion-- "[Bills] need to be honest with themselves and come to terms with their own failures.  Too many penalties, way too many turnovers and, from Allen's point of view, too many negative plays."  Bills can clean this up, but they need to have a sense of urgency about it.  It's up to them.

I was saying the exact same thing to my TV, why not kick a field goal there. The defense was actually holding up at this point and there was plenty of time. The play call was atrocious, you could see Cook was gassed that's why i thought it was Josh Allen all the way.

Buffalo was exceptionally mediocre through most of the game. Houston was all over them on defense. Going for it on 4th down early in the 4th fourth quarter was a bad decision.  They needed points and dumb-dumb was too dumb to see it. Neither Brady or McD are war time Consigliere.  They continually get lost in the fog of war when things aren’t working.

I can understand the decision to go for it there. The kick wasn't a gimme -- would have been about 50 yards -- and a FG would have still had us down by a point.

 

The problem was with the play call. Cook was clearly gassed an coming out of the game, and Brady made him trot back on. I thought for sure he was a decoy for either a bootleg or play action pass. Still not sure why they didn't do do the tush-push there as the one time they did in the game Josh got like 3 yards on it.

 

I still wonder if Josh was more banged up on that smash play in the first half than we know and the coaches were trying to keep him out of harms way? If that is the case, they should have done a much better job of mass protection throughout instead of allowing him to get pressured so often. 

 

Regardless, from McD's reaction after that failed 4th down, you could tell that McD was NOT happy with Brady's play call.

Josh (who I love) is his own worst enemy.  He seems to be reading his progressions from the top - down instead of the short-to-long routes and it will cost him against teams that can generate a pass rush (ATL & Hou).  He needs to play within himself.  I don't know where his patience has gone (last seen in his MVP year).  Here's hoping he finds it and we start to stack wins . . .

Agreed. And getting beat by a backup QB is just embarrassing.

Thursday night games are basically garbage. 

 

The game can't be thrown away or ignored, but I wasn't shocked at the result.

 

Josh has been hot & cold all season, that's the true concern.
