He threw Davis open near the end but he couldn't get his other foot down in bounds at the 2 yard line.

Yeah that's a really tough catch over the defender while twisting back toward the sideline. They should have tried that more than once in the game. It would have worked if the ball were placed a little better.

PS, this is what I meant by traffic beaters in my original post.

“Running routes for the Bills” is a perfect way to say it.

This.  This is our worst issue right now IMHO.  We have enough talent to be effective, but not when the OC is failing at his job as bad as Brady has been this year.  Yes, everyone knows we could use a top end WR1 or deep threat, but that doesn't get to be the excuse for Brady when his play calling and adjustments are so bad.

Our offense has gotten so predictable and the blue print to disrupt it has been there all year.  When the league started to figure McVay out, he adjusted and countered.  Brady is not doing a good job at this, nor is he doing a good job to keep the defenses guessing.  It is so easy to tell what we are about to run or call most the game.

Then there is his terrible adjustments, or lack there of:  I was screaming all game to attack short, quick hitters.  Quick drop and fire - screens, slants, short crossers, comebacks, curls, shots to the RBs out of the backfield, etc.  But we were calling stuff constantly that take too long to develop against a pass rush owning our line rushing just 4.  Allen constantly taking deep drops and looking downfield behind a line getting dominated and crushing our QB was one of the dumbest things I have seen him do yet, and she stuck with it until the very end before he finally did something different and attacked quick hits to move the ball the final drive.

This team has issues on it overall - but Brady has gone from a hero (last year) to approaching a zero this year because he doesn't seem to have the answers to what opposing DC's are now doing to disrupt his offense.

Side note:  The WR group out there has been terrible this year on scramble drills too.  I don't understand how this is so bad this year when its been such a big part of our offense for years.

Throw them open?

How does a QB throw a WR open when the defense is running the route for them?

You’re asking him to throw interceptions.

It's a very common phrase and a very common play. Read the defense and throw the ball where there's going to be space. The receiver can adjust easier than the defender.

Edit: For an example, go watch the Josh Palmer catch against the Ravens. Jaire Alexander is "running the route" with Palmer but Allen leads Palmer upfield on a rope where there's space and Jaire can't react fast enough. This happens all the time in the NFL.

Can somone send this to Terry and explain how bad this is please?

And we help making it worse by running all the bunch sets. Why we refuse to spread the field is beyond me. Its like they want the other time to have the option of rushing any of 11 guys and on run plays our guys have to block all these guys. Spread it out and at least limit what the D can do. I think Brady has gotten so obsessed about turning WR's/TE's into run blockers.

Watched from the stands in Atlanta. Nobody could get open. Play calling was trash. We are done. See y’all next year

hopefully the team gives up on the season, and they have a poor enough finish that Mcdermott and Beane are both gone next year.

The one stinky part of watching from a comfy couch (which I prefer) is that you don’t get to see the whole field.

You don’t get to see what the QB is looking at.

Being at the game, you can. I was there. Where is what I saw:

1) It is tough to describe in words (because people think you’re exaggerating when you’re not) how covered our receiving options were. Texans players were step for step locked in on our receiving options. There were entire series where I don’t think our receivers had an INCH of separation.

2) Allen was watching this unfold and has NO WHERE to throw to 99% of the game, and to make matters worse, he was being pressured non-stop. 28 total pressures, I believe was the final number.

3) What does superman do when he is being pressured and his receivers can’t get open in a normal (or expedited) amount of time? He scrambles to buy them more time to get open.  But by doing so, he gets sacked - deep. Fans who don’t understand what is happening yell “just throw the ball away!” not realizing that this option simply makes it a punt on 4th and 7 instead of a punt on 4th and 20. It also means you don’t have any super hero plays, like his 3rd and 12 scramble. At one point in the game the Texans fans next to us said “there is nothing he can do” … they were right.

4) Brady, for most of the game, kept calling deep crossers, option routes, and traffic beaters. I was pulling my hair out because Allen didn’t have enough time as it was, and Brady had receivers running routes that take 3-5 seconds. On the last 2 drives he finally connected a few neurons and reverted to a shorter route tree and exploited what Houston wasn’t covering (the flats and quick hitters). Magically the offense starting moving the ball.

5) Last thing: I think defenses have figured out Brady’s progression scheme. They seem to be leaving coverage after Allen checks off an option in his progression. This sometimes makes an option look open but Allen is no longer looking at them so it doesn’t matter.

You will see this when the ALL-22 comes out. It was very frustrating.

Brady has definitely become too predictable. He also drew up a terrible game plan, as he should have anticipated that pass rush. Why don't the Bills have a screen game so as to counter that pass rush? McDermott is just not good enough.
