But it is a very mid AFC and very open for the taking. I just worry our flaws that hold us back (lack of receiving talent, defense, coaching) will show up again in the playoffs. Lol. Yes. Assuming we even get there expect that to show up. We’re going to get blown out in a wildcard game. Quote

It’s the opposite of how they operated under Daboll. Mcdermott wanted a balanced attack. He implored Daboll to run the ball at every post game press conference. Now Brady is running the ball at a percentage that is highest in the league. Mcdermott now implores Brady to pass more and get that going. Both offense by every metric is successful. This season the Bills offense is worst when they have an obvious pass gameplan. Feels like Mcdermott strive for balance at times forces the play calling away the offenses strength. I think an honest question can be made if the Bills are burning a prime season. Obviously, if he gets hot in the Playoffs and they win it all who cares. Im under the train of thought that an elite run game paired with Allen is the key for success in the playoffs. My concern is does Josh feel that way. He is chasing explosive passes out of shotgun. The offense is best right now under center. The spread game-plan to attack the outside coverage of Miami didnt work. I think they tried to attack them the wrong way. Stick with run looks and packages and attack out of those. My confusion is the repeated moving away from the run game Atl and Miami. Both games felt like they wanted to prove they are something they are not. Is it Allen, Brady or Mcdermott or a combination of all three. Problem is, just like in the ATL game (after opening series) they come out and run the ball and get nothing. Fine it happens from time to time. We are not winning in passing situations, the further we gotta go down field the harder it is to pick up. When the run game fails early it leads to 3 and outs. The run game failed us early in the game against Miami, ATL and NE. We have to be able to do be able to pass in passing situations. If we can’t we’ll continue to struggle. If we could make some of those long 3rd downs it would help them continue to try to establish the run when it’s not working. Right now it is just taking them off the field Edited 5 hours ago by BananaB 1 Quote

The announcers are practically laughing at how bad they are at getting open on a weekly basis. This isn't to say the coaching helps. But I don't think there's any amount of "creativity" that's going to make Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, Elijah Moore, and Tyrell Shavers get open when they simply can't create separation against even single man coverage. I was at the game yesterday. There was noone really open up the field except on the pass to Kincaid before halftime that he dropped and injured his hamstring. And the TD pass to Hawes. And then on the ridiculous scramble by Josh when he crisscrossed the field and found Samuel at the 50 wide open. But as far as running a normal NFL passing game, where the ball needs to be out in 2-3 seconds, there is noone open in the intermediate areas. That we have the worst group of WR's in the league should get Beane fired. I would also argue that without Shaq Thompson playing we easily have a bottom 5 group of LB's as well. And maybe bottom 3. Sure the coaching isn't spectacular. But the roster is pretty bad with several units. That Jordan Poyer is starting for us, and playing almost every snap is pretty bad at this point in his career. He can not keep up with guys 10 years younger than him. Hancock and Bishop need to be our starting safety's. You need a talented roster to have a chance at Championships in any sport. Ours is not good enough sending out a WR group of Shakir Shavers Coleman Moore and Samuel. It very well could be not good enough to even make the playoffs. 3 Quote

When he is gone they can just play the sticks up and beat our offense. It's over guys and gals, they have wasted another year of Allen and with the contracts they have it will be a loss for at least 2-3 more years. Anyone looking at it pragmatically can see it. Hate to say it, but we ain't seen nothing yet. If Walker, Bosa or Groot go down , forget about the WR roles. My biggest beef is pussing out on the trade deadline. One more Dline injury and it's gonna make having Davis, Palmer, Shakir and Coleman be the least of our problems. Edited 4 hours ago by nosejob 1 Quote

I don't care what anybody says their play shows that This team has a history of playing down for a half or even three quarters to inferior opponents... If you read what I say and you take that as Josh as the problem I don't know what to tell.. but the focus the entire week of game planning does all start with the quarterback.. Josh might have the most talent in the NFL he is not perfect.. seriously he's my favorite player and I've had his back here more than any player ever he's still not perfect when Josh is locked in the entire team is locked in.. this board has been calling Josh the dolphin's Daddy for years I don't think the bills and Josh Allen woke up for the dolphins as much as the Chiefs That's what happens in a 17 game schedule Tom Brady and Peyton Manning had no problem lighting in the teammates even future Hall of Fame teammates... Josh is more of a quiet leader he leads by example Josh is filming all these skits with Peyton Manning I'm surprised Peyton Manning didn't tell him it's okay to lay into your teammates.. that's what this team needs It needs Josh to take the bull by the horns and not be afraid to chew people out.. he's been the consummate professional he has earned the right to keep people accountable Edited 3 hours ago by Buffalo716 Quote

If the McD advantage is the culture he created then consistency and motivated effort should be hallmarks of a superior NFL culture. But increasingly we're seeing cracks in that. The Bills have managed to lose to 2 teams that have gone 4 - 13 versus teams not named the Bills by a combined score of 54 - 27! That is different then what we've seen before. Yep, Ive generally been a supporter of Beane for sure, and McD to a lesser degree... but yesterday, was the third one of the piss poor games we played halfway into the season (just over). Normally we get our 2 bad weeks in a row, and then come back firing better than ever multiple times.... this one is significantly closer to the heels of our bad stretch than other years. I dont have a problem with the loss, anywhere near as much as I do the way we lost. We looked like we did 0 work all week. There was no focus coming in, and very much like they won the SB last week. Preparedness and focus are the 2 tools McD has in his bag that are hard to criticize (at least big picture). Well, those feel gone... so what are we left with? -- A guy who makes WEEEAAAAAK coordinator hires, who cant get those guys firing right. -- Weak X's & O's guy: -Not a real strong Offense Guy -Good def play caller, but not when role is delegated as it should be -If hes calling defense, that time is going to leach from something else! Focus, preparedness, undisciplined, and intensity? Looks it -- A guy that has lost the team. Players may not say it, or even realize it. Consciously or not, they told on him yesterday for having lost them Quote

The running game has really taken a front seat this year, after several years building towards this... and I think the NFL will want to showcase this, and break the trend of a Non-QB winning for the first time since 2012. Biggest hurdle against that IMO is Stafford's old, and they may want to get him one before he retires Quote

Some might hate it here, and I questioned if this was an emotional belief I had yesterday... 24hrs later. I genuinely want to fire McD/Beane. Signal to prospective coaches that a good job is available way ahead of time. What comes after that naturally, is what we're left with. 1. Maybe it fires the boys up, and they start caring/Billeiving again... become dangerous 2. We flounder, lose an extra game or two that we shouldn't have (on top of the ones that would've already happened), and we get a chance to move up draft boards. I know it won't be much, but we need the talent injection! That can be a part of our mini-rebuild, which we need. Cut the worst money, eat those contracts in first year after new FO comes in. Expect it to be a down year, but we can still sneak in as a wild card and actually be dangerous. This team is not winning s*** this year. Even if we go Red-Hot, I dont trust or believe in them to keep it up in playoffs. I'm over rehashing what the problem is with the FO right now... it's old and stale. Were part of a couple, where both sides have been caught cheating... the fights have escalated to throwing plates at the wall... they resent each other. We waited too long to get out of the relationship, and it's fried. Doesnt matter who is more wrong, or at fault. It cant be fixed. I appreciate everything Beane and McD have done here, genuinely, but we hit a wall... we were pot-committed to staying in the hand, so we kept calling... the turn and the river have changed what was a really solid hand, into 3rd best cards at the table... the other guys know it too. There's no more cards to turn, we can't bluff our way out... we blew our chips. Seriously, we need to re-tool. Quote
mjt328 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago The Bills are not bi-polar. They are mediocre team with a one-dimensional offense, and undersized defense that (surprise) can't stay healthy. They had a couple fortunate turnovers in the first month, which allowed them to get some wins they didn't really deserve. Their best game of the season was against the Chiefs, and was an aberration to what we've seen the other 8 games of the year. The only people expecting them to finish significantly above .500 are basing their feelings on the last few years, and hoping this entire season has just been a very lengthy slump. It's much more likely they go on another losing streak and fall out of playoff contention. Even Josh Allen and other longtime vets on the roster look mentally checked-out on the sidelines. This thing isn't just going to suddenly turn around. Despite all the metrics and advanced stats, the eye test is still the most accurate way to judge a team. There were people screaming that something was wrong with the passing game back in mid-September, and they were pretty much ignored because the numbers still looked good on paper. Quote
BillsFanForever19 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) 12 hours ago, Casey D said: I get this. But is the receiver room that much worse than last year when the O consistently lit it up. Remember the Lions and Rams games. What did we have last year that was so much better than this year? I really want to understand. 3 things: - Amari Cooper - Mack Hollins - Not this version of Keon Coleman You might laugh and say "Amari Cooper barely brought us anything and was only on the field like a third of the time". But he was on the field for obvious passing downs. And what he did was draw the top coverage his way and away from guys who couldn't handle it - opening them up. Which is in part what made Coleman a better version than this year. A large part of bringing in Cooper in to me was to get Coleman away from teams top coverage. This is part of the problem with him this year. He's generally matched up against the best Corner a team has. Which completely neutralizes him. On top of that, there was less film on him. I think the league has the complete book on him now. This is why you see a lot of players get a "sophomore slump". They've got a year of film to analyze who they are and how to neutralize them. And on top of *that*, I think his attitude is worse than last season. He doesn't seem to put in the effort or be as locked in as last season. I don't know if he's discouraged by his poor play, what people are saying about him, his relationships in the building - I don't know. But his mental isn't good like it was last season. It might be in part not having Mack Hollins with him. I think Mack was a good leader for that room. Bringing enthusiasm and spirit that uplifted guys and is lacking from our room this year. And while I think he was limited and agreed that we should try and upgrade from him from a talent standpoint - he was getting open better than most of the core we have now. Hindsight is 50/50. Last season we were in better shape than we are now bc of those things. But last season, we still didn't have enough to take us to the next level. There were times like those games you mentioned when things worked perfectly. But in the Playoffs, we rode on the back of James Cook and when we needed a strong passing game to get past the Chiefs - it wasn't enough. This season, we're even worse. We're nowhere.
