First 4 games of the year: 4-0.....Offense score 30+ points in each game, and looks unstoppable....the Defense, though not great was doing enough to at least look competent.

Next two games:  0-2......After scoring 30+ points in the first 4 games, the Offense scores a total of 34 points in these two games, with "curious" play-calling and mind-numbing turnovers.....the Defense looks like a hot mess, especially in the Falcons game, and big questions loom over the team going into the Bye Week.

Next two games: 2-0......The Offense looks dominant in putting up 40 points vs the Panthers, then Josh looks like MVP Josh for the first time this season vs the Chiefs.....The Defense seemed to turn the corner in these two games forcing turnovers vs the Panthers and generating the most pressure a Bills team ever put on Mahomes vs the Chiefs.

This game: Both the Offense and Defense revert back to the way they played in the two losses earlier in the season, showing the exact same problems and flaws that occurred in those games.

So, which of these teams are the real Bills?? The dominant one we have seen in the six wins, or the hapless one we have seen in the three losses??

I leave you with one last question:

It's a VERY mid year for the league. I'd still contend that talent-wise, and with Allen, we can beat anyone.   Or lose to anyone.

So much is how motivated they are.  They treated that Chiefs game like a Super Bowl.  They went all out, and played great, and got all of our hopes up.

But the NFL is about showing up every week like that. They don't. They expected to show up today and to have Miami just hand the game to them.

That's what really bothers me.  They had no heart today at all.  They seem as tired as I do as a fan.

And this is what really worry's me.  If the McD advantage is the culture he created then consistency and motivated effort should be hallmarks of a superior NFL culture.  But increasingly we're seeing cracks in that.

The Bills have managed to lose to 2 teams that have gone 4 - 13 versus teams not named the Bills by a combined score of 54 - 27!  That is different then what we've seen before.

It's real simple and it's something i've been saying for weeks:

Every team in the league knows the Bills want to beat you on the ground. In large part because we have no one that can win on the Outside with any sort of consistency (Kincaid was the only one, but he's in and out of the lineup), even against single coverage. So teams key in on the Run game, crowd the line of scrimmage, and force us to try and beat them with our dumpster fire WR core.

When we run into teams where our Offensive Line and Cook are able to overpower them even when they're planning for it and we're able to put points up early - we're good. Even against good teams like Kansas City.

If we can't and especially if the team gets a lead on us - we are physically incapable of catching up and winning a game through the air. It doesn't matter if it's a bad team like the Falcons or the Dolphins either. We're simply screwed if we need to rely on our pass catchers for anything.

Ultimately, this team lives and dies by whether or not Cook and the OL goes crazy or not. Which makes it a week to week team. We could potentially beat a really good team or lose to a really bad team. Being one dimensional is nowhere to be if you want to compete in the NFL.

I said in a different thread

I judge NFL teams by their highs not their lows

The season is so long and there's so much attrition it really is a league of parity

I judge you by how you look against the best not against the worst because Josh wakes up for big games

Brady had some lulls mid season 2.. more often than not he was able to whip the team specifically the offense in two shape

This season reminds me of the season a couple of years ago when Dorsey was fired mid-season.  Bills started off strong and then the offense seemed to get figured out.  Same thing with this season, but this time we don't have an assistant coach who could step in for Brady, plus I don't think McD will fire Brady during the season (or probably at all).

I believe our offensive effectiveness depends on how defenses approach us. If they attempt to confuse Allen with zones and various formations, he is capable of figuring out their strategy. However, if they stack the box and blitz, it creates challenges for us.

If you only focus on the highs and ignore the lows, and losing to the Falcons and Dolphins are some *HUGE* lows - you're getting an incredibly biased and inaccurate portrait of a team.

If your floor is the basement, especially if it's happening as often as a third of your games, looking only at the ceiling is an incredibly short sighted thing to do.

Considering the Super bowl champions lost buy two touchdowns to the Giants.. and there still one of the top contenders

It is a league of parity.. once the playoffs come it is much more apt to judge by the best game you could play not your worst

It doesn't mean you're going to play your best but it shows what your ceiling is .. any team can play a stinker

But the focus goes up more in the playoffs.. do you think Josh Allen has the bills prepared and not fired up for a postseason game like today?

I don't believe so.. everybody still thinks the Chiefs are the team to beat and we can beat them

This line of thinking only works if they have proven to get it done in the playoffs before. They have not. They have fallen short each and every time.

Eagles and Chiefs have earned their benefit of the doubt. I’m sure you can see that.

Not only that, but the Eagles play a more difficult schedule than we do.

They've yet to play their 9th game. But they have 3 wins over winning teams. We have 1. The teams they've beaten have a combined win loss record of 27-27. The combined win loss record of the teams we've beaten is 21-36.

But beyond all of that, you can chalk their losses up to a bad day at the office. They have a Championship Caliber roster from top to bottom. Our roster had a major glaring flaw going into the season that has performed even worse than even I expected.

We're 2-3 in the last 5 games and have lost to the dredges of the league. To ignore that and the flaws of this roster and say "well we really beat up on some bad teams and the Chiefs and that's who we really are" is beyond looking at the glass half full. It's like looking at the glass as overflowing and ignoring the liquid pouring out of the massive hole in the glass.
