P.S. I just rewatched every Davis catch in the KC game...  So much fun seeing Josh throwing downfield.  Why can't Brady scheme like that?

Coleman was still playing very late in last weeks blow out win. It also looked like he wasn't in very early. I think Coleman is a candidate to be inactive on gameday in the near future. Maybe not this week, but seeing him held out as a healthy scratch by Thanksgiving is definitely possible IMO.

Not to mention in his last season he was injured a lot and when he played was banged up. 
 

A fully healthy Gabe Davis is an asset to us imo, people talk about his drops but look around at our other WRs, apart from Shakir (who doesn’t appear to be as reliable as he was) there’s no one you feel confident about bringing in a contested catch, Gabe was awesome at it for a year or two, hopefully he’s matured a bit now too

As I have said in numerous threads since the off season, I'm not a Gabe fan and didn't want him back on the team. He has poor hands and whoevers fault it is, him and Josh just weren't on the same page too many times.

That said he needs to get on the roster and in games because our receiver room is so poor that he is probably our second best receiver (Shakir being best.) We need someone that can stretch the field and be a threat. He has proven he can do that. He has also shown he can get both feet in bounds on sideline catches. Something our other receivers seem incapable of doing.

Keon seems like a really good run blocker to me so he’ll probably get a pretty long leash.  Obviously you can’t keep a guy like that around too long if he gives you nothing in the passing game though but I’d expect him to keep getting snaps this regular season at least.   Funny enough I feel like Gabe was kinda the same deal haha Gabe would honestly probably still be here on his first stint if there wasn’t a team that would overpay him 

 

I don’t think fans take wr run blocking seriously but the bills definitely seem to…I don’t think it’s by chance they’ve had Gabe, Mack hollins and Keon the last few years

I do agree here. The value the Bills put of run blocking WRs may be higher than any other team. I do think they need to readjust their thinking a bit. With what Hawes brings to the table as well as Kincaid improving as a blocker running 2 or 3 TE sets is, I believe, our best group personnel wise. The trick is that those WRs that run block well HAVE to also be adept at getting open and catching the ball because if they aren't it tips off that a run play is coming when they are on the field. Gabe can do that. Mack did that. Keon struggles at it. Shavers struggles at that.

It wasn't just the drops, it was the bad routes and miscommunications with Allen that led to about half a dozen INTs his last season here. 

 

We all knew the guy was never going to be a decent WR2, which is why we let him walk. 

 

Maybe he can be a positive contributor in a smaller role this season

I think they let him walk because they didn’t want to pay (rightly) what he would have demanded (and got) in the open market.

 

if he’d been prepared to sign for 3m a year I don’t think he’d have ever left. 
 

I also think he wasn’t healthy in his final season with us, and whilst that doesn’t excuse bad route running it also meant he didn’t have a chance to show us the good things he can do (and did in years previous) so people just remember him for being bad which I don’t think is entirely fair

One thing I find interesting about Gabe is that in the 4 years he was here, He was always in the league top 10 in yards per reception, and average depth of target. He averaged 16.5 yards per touch in those 4 years. Not sure after last year's injury he can create the same separation tho.

Yea I gotta think Hawes is far surpassing even what their expectations were..  if they knew they’d get Hawes the next year and he’d look this good this quick maybe they would’ve handled the Keon pick differently idk

why? He's 26 

and that's interesting.   Gabe when utilized properly is a pretty solid WR IMO 
 

he should be playing this week and receive a decent amount of targets....but we'll see
