Here are some rules I think are dumb and that should be changed:

1. After a missed FG, why is the ball spotted at the point of the kick instead of the previous line of scrimmage?  The team not only misses the FG but also effectively gets penalized 7 yards.  I say change this rule.

2. When a team gets flagged for delay of game, why not give them the option to use a timeout to avoid the 5 yard penalty?  It would make for some interesting coaching decisions.

3. In victory formation, the QB should not be charged with a -2 yard rushing attempt.  It should be "team yardage" or something like that. I saw a game the other day where the backup QB was pushing forward to get back to the LOS on each kneel-down, which is just dumb and dangerous, but he apparently didn't want the negative rushing yardage.

There, I said it.  Now back to ragging on Beane and McDermott and Brady.

I agree with number 1 totally. It's a minor thing but it is inconsistent. If a team runs a fake punt and the punter throws it incomplete the next line of scrimmage isn't from where the ball is thrown. It's the same concept IMO. A kick is more akin to a pass attempt. It's different than someone travelling with the ball.

I honestly like the new kickoff rule.  Injuries are down, there’s some excitement, and over 80% are returned.   I think they got this one right.

Agree. The only thing I don't like about the changes to the kick game is the declared onside kick, but that was the previous rule change not this one. The removal of the surprise onside option is a shame.

If I run out of wine the game should be over.

That sounds like a you problem. I NEVER run out of wine. That is a rule in my house.

Players asking for a flag should be an unsportsmanlike penalty. Just get it out of the game. A receiver can’t miss a ball anymore without doing the flag motion.

Great suggestion. I am all for this. Hate the look around and start waving for a flag. I'd let coaches do it, but any player making a flag throwing motion gets a 5 yard penalty.

Having a 5 yard Offside or defensive holding or some other lesser flag negate a 15 yard personal foul and replay the down makes no sense to me.

Yea I'd make personal foul only negatable by another personal foul. Any other penalties offset. But personal fouls should stand.

FINALLY:

UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT & TAUNTING - This ain't the country club, high society, where the decorum of a gentlemen is expected. It's football! Need I remind you, all offensive plays start with the QB touching the centers ass.  Spitting, really spitting is flagged under this? Do you know what's going on at the bottom of those scrums? Unspeakable things. & If you celebrate a TD by pointing at the guy you beat you get flagged? Why bc you hurt the man's feelings? Stop it. If I survive outrunning 300 pound linemen, LBers like Ray Lewis, speedy CBs and Safeties like Ed Reed, you're ***** Right I'm going to spike that football, turn around point at each of them and laugh. Then I'm going to the locker room to change my soiled pants, leaving the stadium & going into witness protection. (Cause I'm pretty sure the players can enforce this ***** themselves)

(By the way, speaking of dumb rules,  why is it ass is okay to say on here but ***** gets censored?)

I agree totally.  Not only should taunting not be penalized, it should be encouraged. This could be the equivalent of fighting in hockey.

But, the new rules resulted in having to declare that you’re trying an onside kick.   That’s a joke.  A big part of it was the element of surprise.   Remember the Saints/Colts Super Bowl when the Saints converted an onside kick to start the 2nd half?

Yeah, but they already killed that when they adjusted how teams had to line up years ago.   This new rule didn’t really make it worse.

Here's my two thoughts

If a D lineman jumps Offside, but then someone on offense holds him to prevent their QB from getting killed, it's offsetting penalties.  To me they should count the 1st one that caused the 2nd.

A stat that I don't like how it's handled, if a QB takes off running and gets tacked behind line of scrimmage, it's counted as a sack, but if he gains even a yard, then it counts as positive rushing yards.  I think if the QB commits to running it should count as either positive or negative yards.
