I think he will make a run at MVP and deservedly so. I feel like Jared Goff is criminally underrated by fans. They have elite talent for sure, but he is the engine behind that entire offense. Elite timing and accuracy. And they don’t settle for field goals either I like Goff. He's a great pocket passer than can do damage when he has time to throw. The reason he's overlooked is because he has zero ability to run or make off-script plays. There was a 3rd and 5 last night in the second half where he steps up in the pocket and has room to run, but realizes he doesn't have the speed to pull it off and he tries to make a short off-platform throw and he doesn't get it anywhere near the open outlet receiver. That play epitomized why he'll never be considered in the top tier of QBs. 1 Quote

As I mentioned elsewhere, in Sunday's win over Denver, analyst Trent Green said he considers Herbert to be the best QB in the NFL. I was shocked and outraged but Green's not the only want who's gravitating towards the new, shiny object with his hot takes. Since when is Herbert the new shiny object? This is his 6th year in the league. We're going into week 4, plenty of season to play out good or bad. 17 hours ago, Sierra Foothills said: True but their D was more than just assignment sound. Their D was excellent. But it starts with being assignment sound. Quote

But isn't it a bit strange to attribute him being the "new shiny object" in his 6th season, to not having lived up to his potential before, when he actually performed (arguably) better in this first 3 games of 2023? If you've watched their games this year, Herbert has made elite game winning plays, in particular against KC and Denver. That's been the knock on him. He can stand tall in the pocket and make all the throws, but can he make the big play in the big moment? This year he's making those plays. This is also the first year where I've seen him realize his legs are a weapon. In the past he's been hesitant to take off even with wide open space in front of him, but this year he's giving defenses that one extra thing to worry about. 1 Quote
