That in a nutshell is democratic socialism. Vote for me and I'll give you free stuff. If you dissect the rhetoric, like cheap or free housing, subsidized groceries, free buses, tax the rich, that's the entire strategy. Nothing they say provides any hint of creating productive activity or growth. Its all about consumption and redistribution. And it works very well until it doesn't. In Bolivia the socialist failed to get an iron grip on power before the money ran out.
