sherpa Posted October 15 Posted October 15 The US has just deployed an AC-130 gunship to the region. A monster firepower machine. It has plenty of loiter time, plenty of guns, plenty of sensors, and usually operates at night. Not a survivable situation for a boat driver. 1 1

From the legal side: I took the Law of the Sea class many moons ago, so I'm not exactly up to speed on this. My understanding: we're talking about non-flag vessels in international waters. The law is murky here about what we can do. I'm not saying we can't legally do this, but I would like to see the legal theory tightened up here. There may be grounds for seizing the vessel; I'm not sure what grounds would lead to destroying the vessel, particularly if no warning is given. Here's a good summary from a maritime lawyer. https://federal-criminal.com/forfeiture-seizure/federal-laws-on-seizing-vessels-in-international-waters/ I understand they're basing this on a quasi-terrorism ground, but international law is actually a thing too. 1

sherpa Posted October 16 Posted October 16 The US has no need for Venezuelan oil. There is no leverage there.
Wolfgang Posted Saturday at 12:55 PM Posted Saturday at 12:55 PM The soft on crime people will be absolutely miserable over the next several years... Good times ahead... Strange how so many Americans could care less about the triple digit overdose deaths we experience year after year... They support endless foreign wars... But the deaths of our youth go unavenged...
