Every year I wish the Bills would just select the best K in the draft, even if it's a 3rd or 4th round pick. It seems like a low-risk position to evaluate, as kicking field goals in college is exactly the same as kicking field goals in the NFL.  It's such a key role, and one the Bills (and many other teams) seem to undervalue. Think about how important guys like Butker and Tucker have been to their teams' success.

Surprisingly, being the top picked kicker in the draft doesn’t correlate to success. Many of the most successful have been undrafted. That’s why teams don’t deploy this strategy.

Outside too

And at sea level in high humidity!  It’s been close to 100 degrees every day here for the past week with AccuWeather stating it feels like 112 !  Been living here since 1985 and can’t recall a string of hot weather persisting this long.  It doesn’t even cool much at night ; just been miserably hot outside and it feels suffocating with the high humidity. That was an amazing  kick; imagine if he hit that in Denver !  Was cool to watch it happen , even if on tv!

Hunter made his two way debut.  He had 2 receptions for 2 yards , and missed a tackle on a Rb as he came up and slipped , and the Rb ran for a first down.   Lawrence was the qb as well, who I think will need to move to a different franchise to be successful.  Time will tell, but giving up all that draft capital for anything other than a franchise qb seems foolish.  Typical jags stuff under owner Kahn.

And just like that, Justin Tucker who?

Too bad for the kid that it doesn’t count and Tucker still holds the record.

It may be time to shrink the width of the uprights. I don’t want this becoming a league where when you hit the 50 it’s almost automatic points.

no more rule changes 😂. Also in this day in age with the high scoring fgs are not really something to be thrilled about.

Sebastian Janikowski begs to differ.

Him and who else?

If you care to see for yourself, look at all of the kickers selected first as far back as you’d like to go. Look at their career stats and then compare them with kickers who played in the league more than a couple of seasons. You’ll be surprised. Their stats are worse.

I looked into this because I shared the OP’s view because it seemed to “make sense” and was surprised to find out the stats don’t agree.

This is literally why teams don’t follow this strategy despite how critical the position of kicker really is.

That would suck to hit a kick like that and have it actually not count. I would have waited until the regular season so, that it would have counted in the record books

Most teams wouldn’t even give a kicker the opportunity to kick a 70 yarder or trust me, it would’ve been broken already by now. Either by the record holder Tucker or Prater.

Sometimes I wish coaches would be less humble when it comes to individual player records. There’s times when Josh Allen already had 4 total TDs before the end of the first half and I know would have a very decent chance of breaking the record of 7.

I saw the same thing when Kamara broke the rush TD record. They gave it to Hill a couple times at the 1 yard line. Why not let your own player obliterate the record ? Yeah yeah sportsmanship I know….

That never made sense to me. You’d think a Kicker who could push it even 5 yards further would be such an incredible cheat code for teams. I mean there’s a reason for edit: undervaluing the position obviously, but I don’t know it. I get where Al Davis was coming from and admire him for trying something potentially revolutionary & outside the box. I hope one day we see another super kicker like Janikowski burst onto the NFL scene from some cave in Romania.

Christ NO! Bass can barely split them as it is now!
