Meaning, if we kept Boogie and Ford as depth for an extra year rather than dumping them for peanuts, does it really matter or make a difference. Everyone’s definition of bust vs hit is so different. Is AJE a disappointment or is he a hit because he got a very modest second contract in Buffalo? I think like anything else, analysis has to be pretty clear across the league to make meaningful comparisons AJE is neither a hit nor a bust. He's a good depth piece who shouldn't be in a starting role, and is paid accordingly. 1 Quote

So, you're paying a guy $10 million, and you're guaranteeing $9.5 million for 4 years. The difference is $125,000 a year-chicken feed to NFL teams. What's going to happen is the teams that care about getting their rookies in camp on time will figure out the nit-picking isn't worth it, while teams like the Bengals will let their rookies come in late over a few $ of guaranteed $. Or the players will realize 95% is close enough & get themselves signed. If the teams don't want to guarantee the contracts of 2nd rounders, trade out of the 2nd round, or have enough confidence in the players you are drafting. 1 1 Quote

When they introduced the rookie wage scale the union could've done a better job of negotiating % of guaranteed money by draft position. When the contract runs up the NFLPA if they're worth anything will have these rookie contracts set with no wiggle room by teams. Quote
In Summary Posted July 19 Posted July 19 It's nice to have a signed D-lineman who's ready to go and not otherwise suspended, injured, undersized, or ancient. 1 Quote

I think like anything else, analysis has to be pretty clear across the league to make meaningful comparisons I don't think people would see AJE as a disappointment if his first 2 seasons matched seasons 3, 4 & 5. And I put more of that on the Bills than the player. Of the three "failures" on our list only Cody even made it to the end of year 3. Zay was traded early in his 3rd year, and Boogie before his 3rd year. Quote

Time will tell That is the flip side that I considered. My bet is that few players are wired to just take the money and get fat. Now that second contract is another story lol Quote
Sierra Foothills Posted July 19 Posted July 19 21 hours ago, Sierra Foothills said: Numbers for comparison... Last year's 33rd pick, Keon Coleman got 95.69% of his contract guaranteed. This year's 33rd pick, Carson Schwesinger got 100% guaranteed. This year's 39th pick WR Luther Burden received a 100% guaranteed contract. This year's 40th pick is a QB... Tyler Shough and he remains unsigned. This year's 41st pick, TJ Sanders got 94.63% guaranteed. This year's 42nd pick, TE Mason Taylor got 91.30% guaranteed. To put a bow on it, from PFT: "As the 40th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, Shough is the lowest pick in the draft to get a fully guaranteed deal. Until this year, no second-round pick had received a fully guaranteed deal, but when the 33rd and 34th overall picks got their rookie contracts guaranteed this year, that led agents for other second-round picks to demand fully guaranteed deals for their clients as well. In the end, the first eight picks of the second round got their rookie contracts guaranteed. According to the report, the Saints also agreed to a stipulation no other second-round pick has: Shough will get most of his pay each year as a guaranteed roster bonus during the first week of training camp, rather than having to earn most of his salary weekly during the regular season." Next year's 2nd round pick negotiations should be interesting. 1 Quote
