I guess I agree with you about Singletary, but the mere fact that people good disagree about Devin freaking Singletary shows why it's foolish to overpay for a running back.  Singletary may be close and misses the cut, but there are a lot of running backs who are better than Singletary.  To use a phrase that got me in trouble when talking about receivers, good (not Hall-of-Fame good but good) running backs are a dime a dozen, not $180 million (which is a dozen running backs at $15 million apiece.)

Dobbins contract with the Broncos is for $2.75M

Don't pay either of them. Time for Ray Davis to step up. I don't like paying running backs unless they are one of the handful of elite ones that you would really be foolish to let leave. James Cook isn't one of those guys. He is a tier below. The fact that there is a huge contingent of the fanbase that believes that PROVES he isn't one of those guys. Otherwise, we'd all be clamoring to keep him.

They really should’ve took the money they gave WR Palmer and just gave it to Cook. I’m not a fan of paying RBs either, but Buffalo is in “win now” mode. I don’t want to waste another Josh Allen prime year by starting a player like Ray Davis who MIGHT be a suitable replacement. The Bills need to go into 2025 with every possible weapon at their disposal. A 1000+ yard/18 TD RB is not as easy of a replacement as some people think. If we were a rebuilding team then I would be all for letting Cook walk.
