Draconator Posted November 11 Posted November 11 All of my animals were left up to my wife and her kids for the most part Lady Bella (Cat) - My wife Calvin (Cat) - He came to us with that name, we liked it so we kept it. Emery (Cat) - My stepdaughters named her. She was a black cat and I wanted to have some say, so her official name is Emery Cygnus. (Cygnus being a Rush reference). Emery adopted us. She showed up in our backyard right around Thanksgiving time, so there were no names to go off of. Chloe (Cat) - When we adopted her, her name was Punkin. That name didn't thrill us, so the wife and kids came up with Chloe. They always think that part of their original name should be kept, so her official name is Chloe Punkin. Riley (Dog). When he adopted him his name was Recon. That didn't fly, so my wife and step daughter was Googling names that go with Recon on the way home from picking him up. Riley was a common result, so we went with Riley. For a middle name, my step daughter did more Googling, and Cooper came up. My wife liked it, so his name is Riley Cooper. I had to tell my sporting friends he was not named after an Eagles WR. Millie and Maggie (Cats) - That was their names when we adopted them. My wife thought they went well together, so we kept them. PromoTheRobot Posted November 12 Posted November 12 We only get rescues now, so we keep whatever name they come with. Sometimes we shorten it. Our current Chihuahua/Beagle mix, her shelter name was Chimichanga. We shortened it to "Chimi." Our first dog as a couple was a Scotty/Schnauzer we got as a pup. We called him Angus, or "Ang" for short. He was a terrific dog. Died way too young. My only dog growing up was terrier mix. We called her "Kukla" from the puppets on the Ed Sullivan Show Kukla, Fran & Ollie. My mom was Russian and Kukla means doll. Quote

Investigating the family history, I came across a photo and a couple of letters from my youngest aunt to my Dad when he was overseas in WW II that referenced a small white dog named Queenie who apparently replaced "old Ginger". Growing up, we had a string of Queenies and Gingers although we also had other dog names. 1 Quote

Blue Heelers are fiercely loyal, and the coyote side added a dimension of "wild" like you could only imagine. She's 5 now, but the first 2 years was constant training. Like, we couldn't leave her alone in any room with anybody cause no one knew how she would act and there were a few times where she would "turn" on people and try to attack them, but she's well behaved now and in fact, is the biggest suck ever. My son named her for her colors and her coat.........Chai Latte (yes, we got problems). I have to google chai latte to see the color. Which is which on the parental side. Size wise. Heelers are pretty robust cattle dogs. Quote
