SCBills Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I respect Massie, but at some point you can’t fight everything. If this didn’t pass, it would’ve been an absolute disaster for the country and, specifically, Republicans. The good faith conservatives are fighting a war that can never be won. America pretends to care about the debt, but they only do insofar as it doesn’t affect programs and entitlements.. which is obviously a massive reason we can’t get our national debt down. Maybe when the bond market collapses, people will finally take it seriously.

The media trotted out every federal employee that may lose their job to AI (this is only allowed to happen in the private sector) for sympathy and cried about reducing the bloated federal workforce. Now they’re going to seethe over illegals losing access to Medicaid and other benefits we can’t afford. And there should be a ton more the Senate can add to this bill as far as cuts. 1

I read this bill over time will add $5 trillion more to the national debt currently pegged at $36 trillion with annual interest payments of over $1 trillion which is the level carried over from Biden. So I'm wondering, if they can borrow a couple trillion every year why can't the government just eliminate the income tax and borrow all the money they need? Is it simply a distinction between irresponsible fiscal policies that accumulate higher and higher debts that will kill us slowly vs. one that will kill us quickly? The Frankish Reich Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago $40,000 SALT deduction. AYFKM? Subsidy for California and NY residents. And who pays $40,000 in state and local taxes? People with a lot of income. We call them "rich."

Want to continue controlling Long Island.. throw a bone to the reps in a state with a dumpster fire government.

But the 2017 tax bill - let's face facts, Trump's sole legislative achievement - made a big point of not subsidizing profligate states through the SALT deduction. It is worth pointing out that any principled design of the tax code to reduce these incentives is now shot to sh!te

That would also phase out the UMC, affluent and wealthy, no? We call them “Fergie and frenz”. 1
Roundybout Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Reminder that DOGE was always a fraud to weaken American hegemony and not to actually cut debt.

You can’t have it both ways. Complain about DOGE being this threat to the bureaucracy and the deep state - then say it was always a fraud. The frauds are the Dems and media that vilified it. We don’t have the votes - thanks to Democrats and low info Americans - to make the cuts and reforms necessary to make significant dents in the debt. It’s just a fact. So for now it will need to be incremental. DOGE is just the start. Americans in future elections are going to be asked - what are we doing about the debt? The Democrat response will be more taxes and magic.

It “cut” a tiny fraction of its intended goal, and now Elon is slinking away with his tail between his legs. You cannot address debt without raising taxes. If you were so worried about it, you wouldn’t be jerking it to a bill that increases funding for sadistic nonsense like ICE. It’s a scam. 1
