Elon’s intentions are good, but virtue in politics is not rewarded and he wants Republicans to take the 20 side of an 80/20 issue.

Americans don’t care about debt.

They should.. but we don’t.

Therefore he wants the slashing of entitlements which would result, likely, in Republican losses over the next 2-4 years .. which, ironically, would lead to even worse handling of the debt.

I agree that Americans really don't care about debt and passing this bill would be good long term for the party.  If the Repulicans thought reducing the deficit was a top priority someone like Rand Paul or Paul Ryan would be president.

Musk feels used though.  I'm guessing that In his mind wtf did he spend all that time working the last four months to make better use of taxpayer money with DOGE and then have a spending bill that would increase the deficit by 5 trillion dollars?  Especially given his businesses took a hit because he worked with Trump.  It's a slap in the face and I don't disagree.

R u for real with that statement? You actually think Elon Musk cares? He’s a shrewd businessman…he’s playing both sides right now. He got his foot in the door and siphoned all the info he needed to give his business an edge while making himself and his liberal, electric vehicles look appealing to MAGA since they were “soooo unfairly attacked” by the liberal hate machine…blah, blah, blah…now he can re-center himself in the public eye and distance himself from Donald because he has what he wanted and by the time anyone realizes the “access” he has provided himself and confronts it, IT WON’T MATTER.
Well played Elon

You still have them thinking you care about the US deficit for some f-in reason!

I love how people just place the most cynical of motivations on people they don't know.

Slash entitlements? Hahaha…Tesla and SpaceX would be 0 without tax credits grants and contracts from USA and TX. Did Elon think maybe we shouldn’t be funding his dream to go to mars?

Playing both sides how?  I mean he was pretty slick positioning your crazies to firebomb the Tesla and getting former VP candidate Walz to try and drive down the value, but beyond that?

My crazies, your crazies, their crazies…ahhhh pronoun games.

I’m not going to explain the obvious to you. But, try this little exercise and ask yourself…”What possible interest could the world’s richest man have in the US government saving money and being more efficient?”
If you come up with an altruistic motive as an answer, try again.
If you just can’t get it, be patient and watch the next couple of years.
Good luck buddy👍

That's a fair question, I often wonder about Bill Gates and his elevation to sainthood because he's going to give all his money away save the measly $3b set aside for his kids.

Anyway, "the possible interest" could be offering a better taxpayer/government relationship by pointing out the challenges of ever-increasing debt.  It could be in applying his skillset to identifying fraud and waster in government, resetting entitlements because he feels that's the best possible outcome for American citizens.  I guess it's also possible that as he helped to identify/root out fraud and abuse, it freed up money that could be spent in other areas or for projects where he might benefit.

Could be his version of altruism, could be his heart is in the right place.  Could be he really believed he could make a difference.

I think for both parties, being amongst the wealthiest in the world doesn't necessarily mean they cannot try to do good things in life.   But yeah, it's def possible he just wants to sell more Teslas.

I can't guarantee I'll remember to check back in a couple years, but I did put a sticky note on my planner.

For a bunch of reasonable intelligent people the posts on here are beyond absurd.  Constantly rationalizing insane behavior.  Its very hard for people to admit they were wrong and the party they worshiped is a fraud.  Left and Right.
