TheBrownBear Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Wow!!! This is clearly golf's "steroid era". No hall of fame for Rory or Scottie!!! 😉 Quote
Special K Posted May 30 Author Posted May 30 Is this a low-key suspension by the PGA Tour?? Just a little more "smoke" that gives my theory that his illegal driver was more than from "regular use" a little more juice. I remember a few years back when Dustin Johnson "announced" that he was going to take a six month break from the Tour to recharge himself, and the PGA went along with it until it leaked that he was actually suspended for six months for failing two drug tests showing Cocaine use. Whenever Rory does come back, if he is not playing as lights out as he was before this situation, you really have to start to wonder.... Quote
Special K Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 Sorry....would have added it to the original thread right away, but my phone wouldn't let me change the title. Quote

He's playing at the Canadian Open next week. re Just a little more "smoke" that gives my theory that his illegal driver was more than from "regular use" a little more juice. - It really doesn't. re I remember a few years back when Dustin Johnson "announced" that he was going to take a six month break from the Tour to recharge himself, and the PGA went along with it until it leaked that he was actually suspended for six months for failing two drug tests showing Cocaine use. - I stand corrected. There you have it. Must be a one week suspension for Rory, nothing to do with his not wanting to play 3 weeks in a row. re Whenever Rory does come back, if he is not playing as lights out as he was before this situation, you really have to start to wonder.... - Sounds like you've already made up your mind. Are you the President of the Rory McIlroy fan club?? I hope he proves me wrong, the guy has always been a good player, but he never played as lights out as he played in the beginning of this year. He really needed the Masters to cement his legacy, and maybe he was willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. If he plays poorly at the Canadian open, and misses the cut at the US Open, will you at least allow for the possibility that something was fishy?? If he plays well in these next two tournaments, then I will have read too much into it, admit I was wrong, and let it go. Quote

He'll be free all weekend to work things out, maybe try a few different drivers. 20 hours ago, Special K said: After the first round +1, 10 shots off the lead, tied for 119th place.........someone check if @Steve O is OK.🙂 His driver was not tested Masters' week, but it did pass in March. A third of the field is tested each week. Results are supposed to be confidential, he refused interviews PGA week because the press leaked confidential information. I'll make room for the possibility that missing the Memorial had more to do with letting things die down than not wanting to play 3 weeks in a row. What I won't make room for is your suggestion that he was suspended. This was a ticket for gong 42 in a 35, not 100. Quote

The PGA tour wanted him to win the Masters as much as he did....we will never know what they allowed him to do to make it happen. No great player can go from playing as good as he was playing, to absolutely crapping the bed like he is right now.....there has to be a reason for it I will admit I've always felt him to be a bit of a fraud, being propped up by the PGA Tour after Tiger and Phil were past their primes. I also feel he showed his true character after how he treated his fiancee at the time, Caroline Wozniacki....breaking up with her in a 2 minute phone call, then ghosting her from that point forward. There's a lot of smoke right now, but honestly there really never will be any way to know whose right about this situation unless something is leaked like it was with Dustin Johnson. I wouldn't expect much different results next week.......Oakmont is not a golf course you want to show up at playing the way he is playing right now. Edited 7 hours ago by Special K Quote
