If he turns too soon he risks losing the reciever.   

I never played the game, not sure what the proper technique is.. maybe watch his eyes to anticipate the ball arriving?

 

Eyes and hands.  Both will do things when the ball is in the air.

Makes more sense to not throw a Hail Mary. Refs don't call interference on Hail Marys. They will call interference on long throws. So just send a single WR deep on a bomb and have the WR play for drawing the interference
