“Instead of pursuing the long-term viability of future libraries and supporting the traditional role of acquisition, preservation and circulation, ALA desires to inject the library into the vanguard of the culture wars,” said Ingram, whose local library’s recent struggles with such issues were the subject of an April article in the New Yorker. Fellow ImagineIF trustee Carmen Cuthbertson, who sits on the Montana State Library Commission, spoke in favor of and voted for the ALA withdrawal.

 

Similar points were raised by other individuals who alleged that the association is responsible for making objectionable materials available to minors, has advocated in support of conversations about gender identity among children, and is actively seeking to promote a Marxist ideology. Two commenters in the meeting’s Zoom chat wrote that they’d attended in the hope of initiating similar efforts to withdraw from ALA in Georgia and Kentucky.

 

 

The ALA is perfectly free to push libraries to include ***** materials and leftist propaganda on their stacks. Similarly, no state or local library is required to belong to such an organization.

 

Until recently, the response to leftists inserting their politics into such non-partisan organizations as the ALA has been weak and ineffective, usually manifesting itself merely in letters of complaint or public disagreement, with no real pushback. As a result, the left had no reason to stop, and thus succeeded in transforming such organizations into a form of political action committee, working exclusively for the left.

 

Montana’s action however is real, and illustrates doing something with real impact. It is also something we need much more of.

The Montana Free Press notes this isn't the first controversy to wrack the state library commission; last fall, the members voted against a new logo for the state library because the stylized primary colors in the logo were too gay, like a Pride flag; the commission eventually approved a redesigned version that used a slightly different color palette and we swear we are not making this up apart from our enhanced labels at the top:

This move is reminiscent of states dropping out of the National School Boards Association, which was created in 1940 to lobby for federal funding of local schools.

 

In June 2021, a Virginia school board had a parent arrested for trespassing when he complained about a tranny raping his daughter in a girls bathroom and the school superintendent covering the rape up. Parents elsewhere began challenging school boards over tranny rights and critical race theory. The NSBA demanded that AG Merrick Garland label protesting parents as domestic terrorists — and to use the Patriot Act against them, as if they were going to hijack airliners.

 

States fought back.

 

WHYY reported on October 15, 2021, “The governing board of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association has voted unanimously to withdraw from its national counterpart, after the larger group requested federal help to address increasing harassment and threats of violence against school board members.

 

“‘Attempting to solve the problems with a call for federal intervention is not the place to begin, nor a model for promoting greater civility and respect for the democratic process,’ PSBA wrote in a statement to its members.”

 

Within months, 29 state school boards either distanced themselves from the national group or dropped out, taking with them $1 million a year in dues.

Good for them for finally fighting back.

The press also gets censorship wrong. Moving an adult book from the children’s section to the adult section is not a ban. It is what responsible adults did when I was young.

The last few years have seen a dramatic uptick in book-banning attempts, an escalation of censorship tactics, and the coordinated harassment of teachers and librarians as political groups and parent associations target works of literature containing what they deem to be objectionable material for young readers.”

 

Challenged. Not censored. Not banned. It was just someone complaining that maybe you ought not show children a book that includes drawings of a 10-year-old boy giving blowjobs. That is what is in Gender *****.

 

The real threat to freedom is in banning citizens from protesting. When you arrest a man who complained about his daughter being raped in a school bathroom, you have gone to the dark side.

 

The ALA went to the dark side long ago with its drag queen story hours and its promotion of Gender *****.

 

The Montana State Library commission finally struck back on Tuesday. I hope that other states will follow Montana’s lead.

Is the American Library Association’s Demise Imminent? More States Sever Ties With the Organization

 

 

 

It appears the controversy over inappropriate books on library shelves is hitting a tipping point, which has caused a ripple effect through various parts of the country. Last month, Texas decided to cut ties with the American Library Association (ALA).

 

Now, other states like Wyoming, Montana, and Missouri are following suit. If more states get on the bandwagon, what will happen to the ALA? We need only look at the fate of the National School Boards Association (NSBA) after the fallout from the “domestic terrorist” controversy.

 

Public education and libraries are supposed to be non-partisan. But the American Library Association clearly has a partisan agenda that involves indoctrinating children to buy into Marxist ideology. The organization, which is funded by taxpayer dollars, claims that it exists purely to be a resource for communities across the country. However, the fact that its membership has fallen by 14 percent seems to suggest it is out of touch with parents.

 

Indeed, Emily Drabinski, president of the ALA, was recently caught on tape at a Socialist conference arguing that libraries “need to be on the agenda of socialist organizing,” according to a report from author and psychologist Dr. Karlyn Borysenko.

One former librarian-turned-radical writer, Kelly Jenson, wrote an article at Book Riot about how “public libraries need to prepare" and suggested that Cameron's events could be barred based on a "public safety concern."

I don't know about the schools near you.  But around here the kids get a tablet for all their books.  The libraries don't get much use anymore
