The law said the police chief had to reside in Atherton. The guy they hired could not afford anyplace in town and they had to change the law so they could hire him. There is a more exclusive town, Los Altos Hills, which is adjacent to Stanford University and just on the other side of Stanford from Atherton. The town does not allow any businesses in the town. Are you kidding pay any police officer what it's worth to live a lavish life style such as those in that neighborhood then have to go out & put their life on the line every time they make a stop or to put up with the BS that they have to that's just ludicrous man !! Then those in that neighborhood were probably all about cutting their funding to have them do the same job with less ! Hey it sounds about right to me pay the liberal athlete a S**T ton of money to shoot or throw a ball but have the police & military make $40k a year yep that's just about the way it works then allow them & others to demean them while trying to defend them but can't afford or isn't allowed by law to live near them ....
