I think that conclusion is demonstrably false because to this point any escalation in hostilities from either side has been met with an equal or larger escalation from the other.  It might be a major error in judgment to base strategy on the premise the other person is going to back down if they're threatened with more harm.

I've been a party in one form or another to some personal disagreements where both potential combatants had a similar expectation (that being the other guy will back down) it never ended well for either person.

So you are fine with Putin taken part of Ukraine. Basically you are for appeasement like Chamberlain was with Hitler

I'm saying escalations in hostilities have a potential to lead to WW3 which results in the end of the world.  Are you good with that outcome?

Not standing up for democracies could lead to ill outcomes as well. WE have already learned that lesson at Munich in 1938.

I am no expert on the region but I’ve heard that the eastern region in dispute is far from universally accepted as being ‘part of Ukraine’….just saying.

Well, Putin shouldn't have shot his way in, deported people (ethnic cleansing), ruined cities and murdered and tortured his way to fake election victory.

You are going to excuse that and say, well, what is to be done?

NATO will stop Russia dead.  Putin isn't going to invade Europe or reform the Soviet Union.  So the 1938 analogy is inapplicable.  And the ability to destroy the world 100 times over changes the dynamics of the conflict and the risks present 2023 vs. 1938.

So are you willing to risk nuclear annihilation of the world to support a fight over national ownership of a couple Russian ethnic provinces in some country on the other side of the Earth?  I'm not and I'll wager almost every one of the other 7 billion human inhabitants of the planet aren't either.

So just give into nuclear blackmail any time he (Or anyone) wants to kill people and screams "I'll nuke anyone that tries to stop my wonderful killing!)

No thanks

No…I brought up your childish nonsense that anyone who questions what we’re doing is a Putin supporter. It’s been played to death. May I suggest you too stay out of the kitchen?

No, you claimed parts of Ukraine are in dispute and I pointed out Putin's actions in those areas.

Then you fell to pieces

No….I was referencing your standard Putin-apologist response. And yes, parts of what we call Ukraine are indeed in dispute. What do YOU think this war is about? World domination?

Yes, but not just Putin, the authoritarians hate democracies and want to snuff them out.

Acoording to Newsweek article, Ukraine is Considering retreating from Bakhmut because they getting too many guys killed.

So much winning.  Russia is fighting this as a war of attrition.  Once Ukraine gets those 30 Bradley's up and running they'll be able to end this quickly.  Yeah right.  Continuing to pour weapons into there will only make this last years longer.  What happens when Ukraine runs out of soldiers?

The story about that city has been worrying with that salt mine it just seemed like exactly the kind of fight Russia would want/excel in. Where they could throw waves of their men at them while it takes away some of the advantages the Ukrainians have had. Getting stuck in a fight like that seemed like a bad idea.
