In the year Trump was elected, union households were split on who to vote for, which helped hand blue-collar states to Trump and break the Democrats’ hold over the rust belt. But now, you have Hispanic voters who not only are disapproving of President Joe Biden and his agenda, but are actively siding with Republicans on key issues. Working-class voters had long been the backbone of Democrats in those rust belt states and Hispanic voters key to Democrats in southern states like Texas, Florida, and elsewhere. But Hispanic voters of all origins started breaking for Republicans — and Trump, in particular — in the last few election cycles. Working-class voters grew upset with the Obama administration attacking factory and mining jobs and flipped to Trump. That first wave at least was supported by Democrats who essentially were the first - America first. They supported American industry and our own workers. That's done. They are the global green party now telling you to suck it up, buy an electric car, and that there are now 97 genders. B-Man Posted July 20, 2022 Share Posted July 20, 2022 Democrats have long believed that “demography is destiny” — that if they just build a multicultural coalition utilizing shifting demographics in the country, they’d obtain a permanent political majority. But there’s a problem: Democrats then switched to all identity politics and extreme takes on social issues that end up pushing many of those demographic groups away. And all the while, they have whistled past this particular graveyard. Donald Trump, vilified as the most racist and corrupt President of all time, nonetheless picked up increasing Hispanic and even black voter support. Republicans in states like Texas and Florida, which have a very large number of Hispanic voters, are getting larger and larger shares of those votes. There is increasing dissatisfaction with Biden among black voters. The working class are losing their faith in Democratic politicians in swing states. The base they were so reliant on is disappearing ahead of the November midterms. Demography is not, in fact, destiny. States moving to impose abortion restrictions have been their primary targets as candidates attempt to scare their voters into showing up at the polls to “stop the Republican menace.” There are suggestions that this strategy may work in some places, at least to a certain extent. But some new analysis coming out of Wisconsin this week suggests that the Democrats may be overplaying their hand with one of their key voting blocks. Black voters are not nearly as invested in legalized abortion as their white counterparts in the Democrats’ ranks. And with the Dems already hemorrhaging support in the Hispanic community, they really can’t afford to start losing Black voters at this point. (Associated Press) Facing critical races for governor and U.S. Senate, Democratic hopefuls in Wisconsin are hoping that their support for abortion rights in the face of a Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade can overcome the headwinds of a midterm election long expected to favor Republicans. But there’s one key group their strategies might fail to mobilize: Black voters. An issue with strong support from white Democrats is more complicated in the Black community, especially among churchgoers who hold more conservative views on abortion. The topic is so fraught that most community organizers avoid bringing it up. “Among the Black Baptist church alone, that would split us in half,” said David Liners, executive director of WISDOM, a faith-based organizing group with a statewide presence, when asked why his group isn’t organizing around abortion. A spokeswoman for Milwaukee-based Souls to the Polls is quoted as calling the subject “taboo” in the churches where she organizes get-out-the-vote drives.
