More over Ben-by-gazi! Here comes real oversight and a serious look for criminal activity

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/02/25/trump-money-deutsche-bank-1204497

House Democrats are planning to cross one of President Donald Trump’s red lines: investigating his personal finances.

The German bank, which has been under scrutiny for its role in Russian money laundering, lent Trump hundreds of millions of dollars over the years for his property development ventures.

The House Financial Services and Intelligence Committees have been staffing up for their probes into the bank and Trump's Russia ties. Democrats on the panels say that with Deutsche Bank they are willing to pursue a key area that Mueller may have avoided — crossing what Trump sees as a "red line" into his personal finances.

“There's a heightened need to look into anything that could compromise the president or the country, particularly if it's not being investigated elsewhere," House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) told POLITICO. "I don't know that to be the case but I just haven't seen any external signs that that's happening."

Democrats won't be confined by boundaries set by the president as they ramp up their probes, so any perceived omissions by Mueller will be prime targets for House committees.

i'm thinking the way karma is biting therm in the ass rather quickly these days, investigations might start to look into how these congressional critters became millionaires. that is probably the real investigation that needs to be conducted.

Squirming they are

A lawyer for the Trump Organization has asked the House Judiciary Committee to cease any investigations related to it, claiming that the panel’s work has been tainted by its hiring of an outside lawyer whose firm has represented Trump’s company.

In a letter Monday to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), Trump Organization lawyer Alan S. Futerfas objected to the committee’s hiring of Berry H. Berke on the grounds that his law firm, Kramer Levin, has represented the Trump Organization on an array of issues.

“This state of affairs violates recognized ethical obligations and irreparably taints the Committee’s work,” Futerfas wrote, adding that it “requires that the Committee cease and desist from any and all activities that are adverse to the Company.”

Futerfas raised similar concerns in a letter last week to House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), saying that his panel works closely with Nadler’s committee.

In a statement, Kramer Levin called the Trump Organization’s letter to Nadler “baseless” and said Berke’s consulting work for the Judiciary Committee “complies fully with all applicable ethical rules, does not pose any conflicts of interest and respects any obligations the firm may have.”

The House has no oversight abilities or power.

The Senate Judiciary does, and that's where the real investigation and power is located. Schiff's committee is only for PR.

Keep telling yourself that!

And PR for things they expose about Trump's criminality is great!

Sort of how the right focuses on racial antagonism to further their agenda of helping the wealthy get more wealthy

Innocent until proven guilty, right?

For that reason, I have come here to apologize to my family, to the government, and to the American people."

He should not be alone in this!

All these "crimes" Cohen is laying out... and Mueller has filed charges about: (checks notes)

None of them.

Cohen has lied three times (by my count) so far in his opening statement. He claims Stone was talking to Assange (Mueller proved this is not true), he claims Trump knew the emails were coming in advance because of Stone (Mueller proves this is also not true). He claims he didn't know if it was right or wrong to pay Stormy while he plead guilty to knowing it was wrong.

He's a liar. He offers no evidence other than his word and documents which are so damning... Mueller ignored them.

This is a show for the TDS addled minds out there who are still clinging to the debunked narrative. And it's a show for those recovering from TDS who see through the Russia/Trump lie but still hate Trump - Cohen is here to remind them why they should hate them (he's racist!).

 What a ***** show. And we're 20 min in.

"Sorry I lied to you before, Congress. I'm sorry. Now I'm going to tell you the truth this time.... I swear"

Cohen: "I will not talk about other investigations...."

(two sentences later)

"Individual 1 is Donald. J. Trump."

(Lie four)

BIG: (he's back to talking about the investigation he said he wasn't going to talk about)

"I do not (know that Trump colluded with Russia) - but I have my suspicions"

Remember, Cohen is the centerpiece of the Steele Dossier. Per Steele, Cohen himself paid off Russian hackers to hack the emails in Prague. This confession means that the Steele dossier is wrong. The Prague story did not happen (as covered here for months and months).

They have been lying to the country for two years.

But NOW they're going to tell the truth... using Michael Cohen?

Please.

Stone claimed to talk to Assange, Cohen stated what Stone claimed.  That's not a lie.

It never happened. And is public record. Cohen is testifying it did.

Here's what his prepared statement says:

Quote

In July 2016, days before the Democratic convention, I was in Mr. Trump’s office when his secretary announced that Roger Stone was on the phone. Mr. Trump put Mr. Stone on the speakerphone. Mr. Stone told Mr. Trump that he had just gotten off the phone with Julian Assange and that Mr. Assange told Mr. Stone that, within a couple of days, there would be a massive dump of emails that would damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Mr. Trump responded by stating to the effect of “wouldn’t that be great.”

To be clear, I'm not saying it happened.  Cohen is reporting what he heard Stone claim.

We do. We have his filings and indictments. Reading them can be informative. I'd recommend you do so, rather than outsourcing your critical thinking to others.

I know you're not arguing that

But I'm saying he's lying. He said definitively that Stone talked to Assange (twice in the course of his statement). He knows that's untrue - now for sure, if he didn't know then. Anyone who read the Stone indictment knows it's untrue. But he's unchallenged on it because saying it this way allows that headline and spin to carry the news cycle.

Now he's bowing before Preibus

All the swamp/cabal monsters got their fingers in Cohen today. Love it.

Cohen: "I received exactly what I wanted"

Jordan: "You mean prison."

Yeah, Jordan was really outclassed there.

DWS up now. Wonder how many times she's been asked about Seth Rich.

The balls on DWS to talk about Russian contacts while she was involved in paying Russian spies for dirt

How does she stay in office? She has the presence of a wet paper bag.

...Oh, wait, I remember how she stays in office. Never mind.

He sure did - which of course is another knife in the already dead horse called the Steele Dossier.

Tibs - you see now that the dossier was complete bunk, correct? The center of the story is testifying as such today (but it's not being covered, and won't be covered, because the media is in on it)

Rep Green: "He's a fake witness."

Truth.
