No. Relocation or contraction.

IE: Hamilton or Québec City or even a 2nd team in Toronto.

Wait,  no the SABRES were headed to Toronto too???  Wow!

But yeah, zero chance a second team would be awarded to Toronto.  Ditto for Hamilton, which at 30 miles away from Toronto qualifies as a bedroom community.

Quebec has an NHL team.

And the Sabres SINCE the Pegulas have proven that the NHL will not contract the Buffalo team.

Great guy, but what did he save the Sabres from?  The playoffs?

Pegs saved you a lot of time................. time you would have spent watching Sabres playoff hockey

Golisano and then Pegs saved them from being considered for moving or relocation.

Wik: in May 2002, John Rigas and his sons were indicted for bank, wire and securities fraud for embezzling more than $2 billion from Adelphia. Rigas was later convicted and presently is appealing a sentence of 15 years in prison. The league took control of the team, though the Rigas family remained owners on paper. For a while, there were no interested buyers. After the two-year period of uncertainty, including rumors of relocating to another city or even straight out folding, the team was sold to a consortium led by Rochester, New York, billionaire and former New York gubernatorial candidate Tom Golisano

At the time Quebec City and those I mentioned were considered possible destinations. Quebec City still has no team and has been exploring NHL recently again.

Hamilton had a deal to move Coyotes recently before AZ blocked it. https://www.thestar.com/business/2012/02/09/hamilton_and_quebec_city_could_support_nhl_teams_economic_think_tank_says.html

Yes, it was Golisano that saved the team from folding or, possibly, moving.

That the "Conference Board of Canada" thinks there can be a few more Canadian NHL teams doesn't make my point wrong, nor does it argue that when Pegula bought the Sabres, these were MORE likely than they are now.
