Texas concept

Recommended Posts

A staple of the Dennsion offense is the Texas concept.

The concept of this route tree is to have your tight end inline and have him push vertically up the seam while the HB runs a short angle route underneath him in the unoccupied space.

Charles clay and McCoy are the perfect TE / HB combination for this concept and it will wreck opposing defenses this season. It is basically an addition to the run game as it is a quick rythem play designed to get the ball into playmakers hands as soon as possible

The diagram below runs it with an out but the concept is the same

Shady can easily have 60+ catches

...EXACTLY the type of intuitive and creative stuff Dennison is capable of to speed things up and shorten TT's field progression time IMO....if that mantra works to make this offense threatening when called upon, the TT long ball will be there for the taking, which he does well....stay tuned............

....EXACTLY what this kid needs......confidence builders in the heat of the battle versus garbage time stats.....it's is his "make it or break it" year IMO and I think he's in good hands with Dennison....stay tuned.............

Clay isn't a tradionally huge TE, so why not use a true blocking TE type to spring 1, 2, or even 3 players off either end of the line?

Well clay is a very good blocking TE so leaving him inline still disguises the play as a run or pass. If you flex him I would think it would tip the defense off to a pass

Haha... well its also impossible for anyone to stay with the texas/angle route in man coverage. Also, if you time seam routes right they're pretty consistent completions.

In the spirit of Buffalo/Carolina kinship, let's hope that they let Christian McCaffrey loose running angles all day.

usually he runs in the flat, but in man coverage you can get a LB turned around easily doing this.

Definitely

The typical Play to the FB is spider 2 Y banana or whatever lingo you want to use

But if you switched his flat route to an angle you might catch overzealous LBrs out of position

flat plays are great for the red zone too, you can get hte LB caught up in traffic and its dimarco/tolbert vs a corner at the goalline.
