Peter
I'm thinking if you mail this to OBD, Mr Whaley will give it his full and immediate attention. You're making it sound like a wider spread thing than it was. He sent a porn email to an assistant coach, who inadvertantly forwarded it (including to Goodell, this is true). Neither Whaley nor the assistant coach were disciplined, but I'm sure they both got called on the carpet for a little fatherly explanation of why they should never, ever, ever do this again. Which, provided the behavior stopped, strikes me as a relatively sane reaction. I can only imagine the press furor if something like that happened in B'lo. The Rooneys have two rules. The second one is don't send or look at porn using Steelers' emails or servers.

It's like Brett Farve taking a picture of the "little man that lives in his pants", then sending it to some female Jets reporter. And he's still in the hall of fame, his #4 is still retired, and he's still on the building... It would be more like him sending it to a lady friend, and said lady friend sending it to a female jets reporter actually. Since he's not the one who sent it to goodell. NastyNateSoldiers
Cause he actively follows this board and is waiting to take advice from a random fan. QB: Are people on drugs not wanting Tyrod back? Thru 15 games we were 7th in points scored. When is the last time we finished top 7 in points the last 20 years? I'll be waiting for an answer from the Tyrod haters. Please spare me with the passing stats. If you don't want to include his rushing stats in the overall qb performance you are analyzing the data incorrectly. Again, the single most important metric for judging a qb is points scored. If the argument goes well everything around Tyrod is top notch (ol, rb, wr, te) and an average replacement will do the same then week 17 should give you pause. I have to believe the Bills brass knows what they are doing and would under no circumstances let him go. The only possible replacement that would come close to his production would be Romo and he is one hit away from IR. Just keep the kid here and everything will be ok. I'm done if they don't pick up his option. Coach: I don't have a problem with any of the guys they are interviewing. Again, we have an offense that is successful. Keep Lynn and Tyrod and you know you have a top 10 offense next year. I hope the lesson was learned with Schwartz. Hopefully Lynn can bring in a coordinator that can improve the d. Gus Bradley's jags d didn't look like anything special. The one guy I think deserves an interview is Mike McCoy. That is a good football coach who will be successful the next time he gets a HC opportunity. It was a well coached team in San Diego and he really got Rivers going after a couple average years. Not saying he should get the gig over Lynn but at least an interview. Lynn should be the choice. He's everything Ryan was not. Draft: The Adams kid from LSU looks like a player. Would be a good pick if he's available at 10. But In the new NFL where passing is king the two edge rushers on defense become paramount. You need two very special athletes on either side to really make a difference defense. We have one in Hughes but we need one on the other side. I don't think Lawson is that guy. The kid from Alabama Tim Williams looks like one of those guys. We will get a better picture of what type of athlete he is at the combine but def someone to look at for pick 10. Seattle's blueprint looks like the best for defense in the new NFL right now. Lots of zone, rush 4 play 7 in coverage. If hide two edge rushers don't create havoc you are dead. The reason it hasn't worked for the other teams that have copied them is they haven't drafted those special athletes on the edges. You look at Denver and Seattle and those edge rushers are so quick and force the qb's to get rid of the ball right away. I think Williams is one of those guys. The only other guy I really like is OJ Howard. Think they can trade down and still get him around 20. The Patriots a couple years ago realized how important a big explosive Te can be. They don't look for one, they look for two. It just creates so many mismatches and it helps with disguise on offense First they went Hernandez and Gronk and now with Bennett. So 1.Adams 2.Williams 3. Howard How bout Mike Williams or Malik Hooker
Hapless Bills Fan
I feel like it was probably a funny NSFW video. Like the kind of thing my buddies and i would attach on a group text to get a laugh. Friend worked at a major US coroporation with a colleague who had played NT briefly for the Oakland Raiders, back in da day when they were baaad. Said he left football because he wasn't aggressive enough and didn't have the high pain tolerance to play football at the NFL level. Big black man, very nice salt-of-the-earth guy, but most physically intimidating (just naturally, by how he moved and stood) human being I have ever known. One of the hourly workers came in with a printout of one of those joke "rules for men" lists he distributed around the department. Nothing really bad, "shaking the sheets after farting isn't necessary" kind of stuff. NT-dude had a report ready to print off and distribute at a high level. Put it down on his desk, not noticing the joke list sitting there. Asked the admin to take it and copy it. Yeah, the joke list went with it. Big brouhahaha. Hourly worker got canned. NT-dude stayed, no discipline. Whaley's thing might have been XXX for all I know, but as far as I'm concerned every man's entitled to a gaffe before or around age 30. hondo in seattle
Sure there are better passers that Taylor. The question is if you get rid of him, will the next guy be better? That's not a given. That's the key point. We haven't had a QB who led us to as many points as TT did in a long time. I'd rather have a Jim Kelly clone under center. But given the reality of the situation, right now Tyrod's our best option. Considering Whaley received the video in an email from a friend and sent it out to a Steeler coworker in an email, I assume it was football related. Probably something humorous? It's not like Whaley is on pedophilia sites and emailing people his favorite pics and vids. Edited January 10, 2017 by hondo in seattle
UCLA Bills Fan
So you say 'Passing is King' yet you still think Tyrod is the answer at QB? Believe me, he definitely has shown some good stuff and i like Tyrod, but consistancy was always an issue and I have seen so many missed opportunities in the passing game that could have been the difference in countless games this past season. I know Cardale is young and inexperienced but he already has a better arm, he's taller, and a lot tougher to bring down when he's running. Not saying he should be starter next year, but don't pay tyrod 20 mill to start over with a new coach and system when Cardale could give you a similar look (with a much higher ceiling) next year if he has the proper coaching and preparation. I hope what happens is that we get an experienced pure passer to compete with Cardale for the job. If the experienced passer wins then I hope he is accurate enough to get the ball to our receivers and skill players a lot more decisively than Tyrod did and let them make the big plays. That plus a much improved defense (an obvious must) and a smart, disciplined coach will get this team on the right track. "Passing is king" refers to how a majority of NFL Offenses rely more heavily on the pass then the run. The point I was trying to make is if you are trying to design a defense it would be most effective to draft/sign personnel that is geared to stopping the pass. It does not mean that a heavy rushing offense with a dual threat QB cannot be just as effective. An offense is as effective as how many points it scores. And with Tyrod we have an offense that is just as efficient as any in league. Clamoring for Cardale is extremely puzzling. We have absolutely no idea what kind of QB he will be. This is a guy who couldn't start for his college team. He's going to lead us to a top 10 offense in the NFL? I don't think so. I can't stress how important this decision is to keep Tyrod. After 17 years of futility on offense we finally have something that is elite. And now we want to not pay him and change course? Makes no sense. I have to think that Bills management would never let something like that happen. Right?
PolishDave
The Doug Whaley/porn story is a cautionary tale. I have two sons. I keep telling them that when I was young and stupid, I could afford to be young and stupid. There are no photographs of me being young and stupid. Technology is both a blessing and a curse. Blessing: The world is at our fingertips. Curse: The world is at our fingertips. One can send or receive the "wrong" text, email, or photo, and your life can change forever. So true. I can't imagine myself and most of my closest friends not completely screwing up our lives if we grew up in this era. Good god. So glad that life was more forgiving in some regards back then. Blessing: The world is at our fingertips. Curse: The world is at our fingertips. One can send or receive the "wrong" text, email, or photo, and your life can change forever. I have a teenage daughter. When we allowed her to purchase a smart phone (years after most of her peers), we tried to explain pretty much what you've said above. In seconds, that phone (and her friends' phones) can be used to do something that will linger for the rest of her life. In contrast to many of her friends' parents, who express helplessness over potential misuse of the phone, I express skeet-shooting over potential misuse of the phone: "Pull!" *BANG* <end_phone>. Even with that loving reminder as a deterrent, of course we're still ultimately helpless, and can only hope that she just makes bonehead mistakes and not life-altering bonehead mistakes.
