3 teams heavily involved in QB Chase Daniels. Hearing Philly is the favorite but not done yet per sources

So... Sanchise available? Maybe a better backup for us than EJ...

Daniel signed with Philly.

Does Rex still have his tattoo of Sanchez in a Bills jersey?

Yes, and it was recently colored in blue which can only mean.... Sanchize to Buffalo!!!! It was foretold. Rex should get a tattoo of Taylor with 5 Super Bowl rings. One for each toe.

Daniel is getting paid more than your typical backup quarterback -- even your upper-echelon backups like Mark Sanchez are usually getting no more than $6 million per year, with just one year fully guaranteed. (In related news, expect Sanchez, now a third-stringer, to be cut in the near future.) That's a hint as to how Pederson and the Eagles value Daniel. While we don't know the specific structure of Daniel's deal, the length, the guarantee and the incentives (which would make the deal worth up to $36 million) all suggest that the Eagles wanted to add some built-in value if Daniel does emerge as the starter. (Daniel's last deal in Kansas City voided if he received regular playing time.) It's likely that the Eagles will begin the season with Bradford as their starter, but they're preparing for an injury or a disappointing performance with a higher-upside option than Sanchez. We still have no idea if Daniel is any good, which is why this grade isn't higher, but it's a fascinatingly aggressive move by a front office that is having a very sound week.

For those asking about Sanchez, has $1m base guarantee. $4.5m base salary. Reasonable money for backup. They'll get some interest.

Not reasonable for a terrible backup.

EJ is a sunk cost. No reason to waste $ on another bad backup.

Ding ding ding

Do you keep EJ at a 2.8m hit on an expiring contract (i.e. Comp pick calculation down the line)

Or cut ej still costing 2.8m, add Sanchez for 1-2m more, and lose the expiring contract on top of the higher total cap hit?

Seems obvious to me, barring obvious upgrade (which ends up even more pricey and not making much sense)

Sadly, Sanchez is about as good as you can expect if you go the veteran backup QB route. Not great but has some ability and a decent amount of starting experience. Anyone better could probably be a starter somewhere and won't want to come in as a backup. However, I think that if you're going to go the veteran route then you might as well stick with EJ because guys like Sanchez aren't really any better.

A better option, IMO, is to draft someone and hope they turn into something good.
