Bills annual Draft Luncheon

What is the difference between having good mechanics that turn bad all the time, and having bad mechanics?

It is like buying bad vegetable from the grocery store and buying half-bad ones and leaving it in the Refrigerator to rot. Both have the same results.

And it's not that I disagree on Jim Monos' statement about QB mechanics, but my question is: if that's how the TEAM truly feels, then why Draft a QB with poor mechanics and the idea they can "fix" him to be their QB of the future??

Monos wasn't here when they drafted EJ. It would be interesting to know how Monos and Fisher had him graded... because when they came in to join Whaley they may well have had different views on the Quarterback he had a hand in taking.

I have said the same thing a dozen times here. Never painted myself into a corner. Surely didn't have to come up with something about Fitz to have a blanket statement. There are dozens of throws from last year and from two years ago and hundreds of them from college where EJ shows very good mechanics. Sometimes he looks absolutely perfect, which is the frustrating part. It's obvious to anyone who watches football.

What's also blatantly obvious is that they break down too often. He gets happy feet. He throws off his back foot. he gets nervous and gets rid of the ball too fast so he doesn't set his feet and/or he throws all arm. That is his problem. You can see it in what Hackett has said about him, and Marrone. What they are trying to get him to do is calm down, trust what he sees and use his good mechanics on 80% of his plays and not 20% or so. Then he will be good. He may never be able to do that. I've been 100% consistent with that viewpoint since they drafted him.

You said I have never seen Fitz throw a mechanically sound pass. I confirmed that as ridculous.

You said EJ has very good mechanics, yet he has (to his credit) sought out many current and former QBs and QB coaching "guru" specialists to...fix his mechanics. Last spring it was with a guy named Calhoun who said he had to improve his throwing motion, his footwork, understanding how the ball comes out of his hand, how he holds the ball---pretty much everything. This guy then predicted EJ could be a Pro Bowl QB in 2014.......and after that didn't happen, it was on to DeBerg and then Lee and then.......

Monos wasnt talking about EJ at all in that statement. They asked him about some quarterback who admitted that he had bad footwork but from the end of the season through the all star games and pro day had been trying to fix it. And Monos said that's all and good but you go back to the (college) tape on a guy like that. If a guy can throw he can throw, if he can't he can't. The Bills obviously thought EJ was fine or they wouldn't have drafted him in the first round (although like someone said, Monos was not there when the Bills drafted him).

EJ's problem has been processing information, decision making and accuracy. He can throw the ball the right way.

Its not that EJ didnt show good mechanics.....it is that they dont remain consistant......

Which of course...means he does not have good mechanics.....or at least has not shown it yet.

Buscaglia tried to suggest that the day didn't portend well for EJ, but nothing remotely new related to EJ was said at this luncheon.

Joe obviously wasn't paying attention to Whaley's quotes. Whaley also said "what we wanted to do was get as many playmakers and as many people who can score TDs as possible until the player at that position takes that next step". It sounds to me that he still believes in EJ with the "next step" comment
