Rodak's points are lost on how Buffalo spends in freeagency. He brings up Williams who has helped make Buffalo a top 5 defense in the league. Watkins helped get Buffalo to its first winning record in over 10 years. He faults Bills on giving Clay 7+ mil/yr because he only performed up to that for 1 year. Without adding any of these players, how is Buffalo suppose to increase talent to head to the playoffs. Because Chandler was a cheaper option we should keep him and find a different blocker. Top level talent takes top 5 picks or over paying in freeagency. Buffalo has plenty of bargin players or they wouldn't have room to use cap money for freeagency. The only way money or picks are miss spent is if the player fails or gets hurt, that is just dumb luck. Buffalo wasn't going to find a TE in the draft like Gronk. Watkins wasn't going to be a Bill without giving up something really good. Williams, who was a first pick overall, wouldn't be a Bill without making him the highest paid DE. Suh didn't go to Miami cheap. Darieus won't come cheap to the Bills next year and Hughes took 9 mil/yr to keep. Talent costs money and unfortunately that number starts at 7-8mil to 20mil/yr depending on postion. $5mil/yr players are the work horses on the roster now, anything less are draft picks and filler players. Welcome to the craziness of pro SPORTS!!!!

Every time posters link an article to Rodak in their thread they are actually supporting the clown. These guys work off of clicks and page views, that's all. The more hits he gets, the more likely he is to stay employed. Keep complaining about him and then post links for everyone to click and get him hits. Me, I just ignore him. If enough people did that, he would just go away.

Here's where Rodak is off base. He says "The ideal in the NFL is to find the defensive end who is worth $5 million but costs only $3 million, or to draft the receiver in the second round who is worth a first-round pick. That doesn't mean bargain shopping is the only way to win, but general mangers who understand value are often successful."

That is incorrect. The ideal in the NFL is "TO WIN GAMES NOW!" That is what the new Bills regime is apparently trying to do and is willing to spend to do it. At the end of the day, it is the Pegula's money to spend and if they want to spend it on building a winner, great!! If it doesn't work out that way, so be it. The Bills haven't had a winner in a long time going the cheap route either.

Seems that Rodak is scared of the Bills.

A HC's job is to win now. A GM's job is to win now and plan to win later.

It's important to get value as often as possible, particularly for GM's who need to look down the road a few years. And sometimes what's good today won't be good tomorrow.

I get why they've signed guys like Mario, Clay to an offer sheet, and traded for Watkins. From a value perspective they weren't/aren't the best moves for the long term. It's also easier to correct mistakes in the NFL by cutting players, which happens frequently. That is, if the contracts aren't too burdensome in the future.

I read something a while back after Seattle traded for Jimmy Graham that included 2015 first round pick. Seattle basically said that there are only 16 players graded as round 1 talent. Go back to the 2014 draft when we make the Watkins trade Whaley could have had an early indication that the 2015 draft would not have a good amount of round 1 talent and if we made the playoffs we would not give up that much. Now that we are closer and Seattle thinks only 16 first round talent and we would have drafted 19, this seems like a good risk reward trade. That is your point here, the GM has to look at that.

Ground and Pound Shady, the best Defense in the NFL, mix in some big plays by Sammy, Percy, Big Play Clay, Woody, Solid Special Teams and top it all off with Rex. The soup is going to taste pretty darn good if the O-Line can get the job done. If we win the line of scrimmage on offense, we win the division. If we don't...we won't.

I always find it funny how everything (Rodak) is compared to the Patriots and how they have written the book on how to win. Here is their formula

Success = 95% find the best qb who ever played the game in the 6th round + 5% everything else
