Terry and Kim made BILLIONS in an industry that is hardly known for nice guys who trip over themselves to step aside and let you buy up contracts and futures. They went into the shark tank and went fishing. To come out on top in that business (or any business) you have to get over on some pretty cutthroat people. This is why the whole idea of Russ Brandon running everything while they sit home and wait to sign off on his decisions was laughable to me. Terry to a very large degree runs the Sabres. He is around every decision. There was never any reason to believe otherwise about the Bills. Marrone was a Russ hire. Russ went to the wall to defend him. Russ was legitimately angry with Howard Simon for questioning Marrone on the radio. NO WAY Russ had any hand in Marrone's departure, and I'm sure he is both shocked and probably angry about it. Ditto with the whole Polian thing. Russ had no knowledge or (or role in) that process. Marrone is also a miserable person to be around and not very smart. Now all of a sudden you see the flood of stories about this once he is gone The days of Russ being the final word are over. It ought to be crystal clear now if it wasn't before. Most people who have that kind of money are usually the beneficiaries of some fairly good luck along the way. If we are honest about it. It still remains to be seen what they can do with a sports team. Undoubtedly they will need advisors and other consultants, hopefully the right ones, to help them along the way. They are trying to get the #1 pick, but meanwhile the facilities Pegula has built are top-notch and the Sabres are well on their way to being a top-notch NHL franchise. The future could be bright assuming prospects develop etc. How many more years do you think they will aggressively go after the top pick? With all due respect to your opinion, weren't these fabulous Sabres spanked in front of their children on New Years Eve? Is their record not disgracefully dismal? Are the only positive reports on some historically unlikely prospects scoring 20 goals in PeeWee? Yes? Then get off your baseless crusade or take this crap to a Sabres board. It's not like they had a winning record but missed the playoffs, so your hypothesis is just that -your belief, with no NHL evidence to support it. Right now they are just as close to becoming a good team as they are being decades away from finding success. They need a bunch of kids to develop into superstars, along with winning a lottery AND convincing FAs to sign here. And they are all kids still. Meanwhile, the Oilers seemingly have the #1 pick every year and they still suck more than the Sabres, who are TRYING to suck. The Sabres haven't been at this forever, nor are they going to be in this mode forever. They are stocked ALREADY with great young players who have no business playing as well as they are. Sabres are not trying to suck, they just do because of the lack of overall talent at the NHL level. Once Pegula fired Regier, that ship was righted. Has to do the same thing with the Bills, completely clean house, find and put the right people in the organization. The BILLS have been a dysfunctional, cheap, loser for 15 years. Proactive and decisive are two things that are needed now with the Bills and sadly these are not traits he exhibited in any capacity with the Sabres. The Sabres are doing the right thing 2 years too late. They waited 2 years to pull the trigger on rebuilding. He also kept Regier through the off-season of 2013 and then fired him two months into the season. An off-season in which he offered Thomas Vanek nearly $9 mil/year over 8 years and attempted to resign Ryan Miller. Why would you keep your GM through an incredibly important off-season (and let him trade your best asset) only to fire him months later? Answer: Because you are clueless and lack any vision whatsoever. I'm happy the Pegula's own the team but without any strong football men in the organization (and we have known), this team is destined to continue to be a middling joke of franchise.
