He played his heart out and lost out to a RB who may never get his speed back and is moving like a turtle... MaGahee should be used for short yardage and little else this season. Almost fumbled on his TD run. 11 carries, 24 yards. Zero chance of breaking a run. One more year to see if he gets his knee stronger and finds some speed. Meanwhile, year 2 of looking at a shadow of his former self. I like TD but he got too cute with that #1 pick. This was FAR WORSE than Mike Williams, who played pretty good again last night . Yeah...trade Henry...great idea... Henrys running style does equal a short career in the NFL...at least he is doing something...if Henry gets hurt again, put in Shaud Williams so we have some hope of gaining more than 3 yards. NO ONE, that's who. it gets old reading posts that imply it's a done deal. everyone from TD on down has made it perfectly clear who the bills' starting RB is right now. second question...who in the bills' organization has suggested that mcgahee is at 100%? NO ONE, that's who. but his talent and instincts are obvious, and he'll probably be close to 100% by the middle of the season. ken simonton is training camp fodder for a team like buffalo. shaud williams is a legitimate player who should make the team. neither of them should be kept at the expense of mcgahee. You don't gamble on a damaged RB with a #1 pick... does nothing year one and still looks slow year 2. Shaud Williams and Simonton should never look better than this guy. They are both longshot undrafted FA's and make pennies. Yet both DO look better. What's ironic is that MaGahee may score 10 TD's if used in short yardage situations. I'm not saying he's anywhere near the back he was at UM, but he's always been a glider who is running alot faster than it looks. I've said that he's not got his explosion back yet. From watching Edgerrin James, I'm not sure he's ever going to. Still, he's probably at least 6 months away from being at his peak. I'm not sure losing Simonton is any loss. Hopefully we will get to see a long run and watch for Willis gliding and the BD's legs whirling like a weed whacker trying to catch Willis. The backs who have shown more behind Willis are running for their football careers to make the team, Willis was running to learn systems and schemes knowing he has made the team with a coaching staff patient about him improving. We just need wait and see him in the real action and a perhaps by midway through the season. Nobody really expects Willis to blow up until (at the VERY earliest) later this season, or more likely, next season. However I did see Willis coming off the field holding his knee. When he was hit he fell akwardly to the ground and clutched his knee and then was helped to the sideline. I guess everything is ok. The Bills know this. It took 2 full years for Edge to be back. This is year 1.5 of Willis recovery. The speed and vision will come back. Be patient! Still, several of us at the stadium draft party were rooting for Steinbach, prior to the Willis selection. I'm just not into paying someone big $$ to watch him rehab 1-2 years to start his career. Especially a critical #1 pick. Nothing personal against Willis. The cap age dictates prudent moves to strengthen your club ASAP. You can only keep a good core together for a short time. The window of opportunity is much shorter than 10-15 years ago, when the cap didn't play into this and rosters had little yearly movement. Now the yearly roster turnover is extraordinary. Your paying this guy like he's one of your 8-12 core players...and he's still not 100 % recovered from his college injury. The issue of whether I expected him to be 100 % this year is moot. I hope we can use him correctly this season. Short yardage/goal line situations seem to be the ticket. If Henry goes down, I would hope the Coaching staff would explore the possibility of giving Williams some carries, instead of settling with Willis carrying 20 times for 60 yards. He isn't scaring anyone in the open field. Williams, on the other hand, could provide that big play threat. The Defense would have to respect that.. Flame away...
