Sorry for being so late on this month again. October is here, and this will be the end of the "Adult Season" of movies as November is gearing up to start the Holiday season with a BOOM. Despite this being the month of Halloween, the traditional fright flicks are being kept to a minimum, and there will be a good amount of drama this month. However there is plenty of variety this month for all to enjoy.

Brad Pitt stars in the WWII drama, "Fury". April, 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Out-numbered, out-gunned, and with a rookie soldier thrust into their platoon, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany. Also starring Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, & Michael Pena.

Ben Affleck stars in the David Fincher film, "Gone Girl". With his wife's disappearance having become the focus of an intense media circus, a man sees the spotlight turned on him when it's suspected that he may not be innocent. Also starring Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris & Tyler Perry.

Robert Downey, Jr. & Robert Duvall star in, "The Judge". Big city lawyer Hank Palmer returns to his childhood home where his father, the town's judge, is suspected of murder. Hank sets out to discover the truth and, along the way, reconnects with his estranged family. Also starring Vera Farmiga & Billy Bob Thornton.

In the animated film, "The Book of Life", Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart, embarks on an adventure that spans three fantastic worlds where he must face his greatest fears. Starring the voices of Diego Luna, Zoe Saldana, Channing Tatum & Ron Perlman.

Keanu Reeves is, "John Wick". An ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. Also starring Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen & Willem Dafoe.

Reese Witherspoon stars in, "The Good Lie". Sudanese refugees given the chance to resettle in America arrive in Kansas, where their encounter with an employment agency counselor forever changes all of their lives. Also starring Arnold Oceng, Ger Duany & Emmanuel Jal.

Steve Carrell & Jennifer Garner star in "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day". Alexander's day begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by more calamities. Though he finds little sympathy from his family and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him, his mom, dad, brother, and sister all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Also starring Ed Oxenbould & Dylan Minnette.

Jake Gyllenhaal stars in "Nightcrawler". A young man stumbles upon the underground world of L.A. freelance crime journalism. Also starring Rene Russo, Bill Paxton and Anne McDaniels.

In "Dracula Untold", Facing threats to his kingdom and his family, Vlad Tepes makes a deal with dangerous supernatural forces - whilst trying to avoid succumbing to the darkness himself. Starring Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper, Sarah Gadon & Art Parkinson.

In "Annabelle", A couple begin to experience terrifying supernatural occurrences involving a vintage doll shortly after their home is invaded by satanic cultists. Starring Ward Horton, Annabelle Wallis, Alfre Woodard & Tony Amendola.

In "Ouija", A group of friends must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. Starring Olivia Cooke, Ana Coto, Daren Kagasoff & Biaca A. Santos.

In "The Best of Me", A pair of former high school sweethearts reunite after many years when they return to visit their small hometown. Starring James Marsden, Michelle Monaghan, Luke Bracey & Liana Liberato.

Finally in "Addicted", A gallerist risks her family and flourishing career when she enters into an affair with a talented painter and slowly loses control of her life. Starring Sharon Leal, Boris Kodjoe, William Levy, John Newberg & Tyson Beckford.

I went to The Judge with the wife this past weekend. It was kind of predictable, but not bad. It was worth the free passes we had.

My thoughts as well on The Judge. Cliched and predictable and I thought they tried to jam a little to much into it. Big city guy coming home to old flame. Mentally disabled brother. Big brother with past issues with him. Sick dad and so on. But the movie did have Downey Jr and Duvall going for it so they elevated it to a 6.5 for me.

We saw "Gone Girl" the week before and I really enjoyed it. The women who played the wife was fantastic. Great story and it wasn't predictable for me. Possibly for someone who is smarter :) . Go see it and you won't be disappointed. A enthusiastic 8.0

We may go to see Fury this weekend but I'm skeptical. Not sure of the details of the plot but if they try to pawn off that US Sherman tanks could even begin to compete with German Tigers they will lose me right off the bat.

Gone Girl is terrific. Might be my favorite Fincher film, which says a lot. It's Fight Club for married folk.

Glad to hear that you both liked "Gone Girl", I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'm not a Ben Affleck fan, but I love David Fincher.

Dante, LOL at your comment about "Fury". I have heard good things about it, and I plan on seeing that as well.

I like Pitt in most movies. When they stretch him a bit he's great.

Affleck is still Affleck in it, but the story and dialogue will help you move past that issue. I was warned not to see it with your significant other, I ignored this and we both wound up laughing through the entire thing (in a good way). It's not being billed as a comedy, but it's totally a comedy -- it's Fincher's own version of "The War of the Roses" (if anyone remembers that gem), and it's really a great flick.

I really wish they had left out the scene with Downey and the bartender. That throwaway portion of the story was very uncomfortable. I'm leaving this vague description in case others plan on seeing the movie, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

Tried to post this in the April movies thread but it was locked. I just rented and watched Oculus and thought it was great. A very nice psychological horror movie that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up a couple different times. Good stuff!

I want to see Fury and Gone Girl.

My wife wants to see Addicted. I'd rather watch the old nun on EWTN for 2 hours. Shoot me.

Thanks for throwing this together, as always, Vader!

Your welcome, Gugny.

I'm going to try and see "Gone Girl" & "Fury" this week.

The Tiger they use in the movie is the last working tiger in the world, it comes from the Bovington Tank museum

Let us know what you think. I'm going to try to see Fury this week if I can.

We saw it yesterday. Intense, well acted. Tank battles are incredible. Realism is a bit stretched but that's ok. Although they did document the tank quality mis match between the Tigers and Shermans pretty well lol. Pitt is great and so is Lebouf. Also, the guy who was Shane in the Walking Dead was maybe best of all. I strongly suggest you see it at a RPX theater. Sound and especially the digital picture are beautiful. Must see. 8.0/10

There is one other one that a group is working on restoring. Pulled out of a river bed in Poland.

I'm amazed they got use of it. I generally don't see WWII movies, as I can't help but nitpick them to pieces (I found eight mistakes in the Fury trailer alone). But I have to now, just to see that tank.

You have to give some artistic license for sure in this one Tom.

I was a fan of the book, but haven't seen the movie yet. I was talking to someone who said the rawness/vulgar/ violence was over the top?

Well... It is Fincher so there is some graphic violence, including one particular scene you already know about from the book I'm sure. I admit, I turned away for a moment during that scene, and can see how some people wouldn't take to it. But really there was more tension than actual gore for most of the movie.

The dialogue and language and rawness of it is most certainly still there, which I love because the author also wrote the screenplay. But with Fincher's take on it, it becomes hilarious... unexpectedly for me because I did not read the book. But if you dug the book I'm sure it won't be too over the top for you.
