And Weinstadt's Mini Me from Detroit wasn't..In fact I'd take Petinne as head coach and let Cleveland have Marrone...

Instead of getting gashed in the run game we are getting gashed in the passing game. Oh well. It seems like his defense leaves a lot of underneath stuff to bend but not break (but our secondary is still giving up huge plays every game).

Let's see, the Bills current defense is:

8th in Points per game (17 spots ahead of Cleveland)

6th in Rush yards per game (22 spots ahead of Cleveland)

26th in Pass yards per game (Still one spot ahead of Cleveland)

15th in Total yards per game (16 spots ahead of Cleveland)

And the Bills are 2-1, Cleveland is 1-2....

Nope.

What were the metrics with Pettines defense in Buffalo over a larger sample of 16 games last year?

What does that have to do with the cost of sliced bread?

The question was do you wish Pettine was still here.... At this point in time, the defense as a whole is preforming better than last year AND preforming better than Pettine's own team.

At this point last year the Bills were averaging 24.6 points per game, 155 Rush yards per game, and 262.3 Pass yards per game. They have improved in every single category, except Pass yards per game, which they are only off by 5 YPG, so it's not like they are getting torched that much more in the air.

more accurate to look at what they were over the first 3 games last year if you're trying to compare to the first 3 games this year under JS if you are looking at sample size. But still meaningless IMO since they aren't against the same opponents.

Fwiw the fans in Cleveland for the most part think he has made their defensive personnel worse than last year and that the two losses fall on coaching.

You are falling in the trap with bad analytical conclusions since the Bills ran a very high paced no huddle last year and they are NOT doing that this year leading the defense to playing less possessions/plays. This will SKEW the yards/game leading to improper comparisons. Now the question is how many less possessions has the defense played because of this important fact?

Perhaps a better and more accurate comparison without doing that is looking at yards/attempt.

No, a more accurate way to look at it is what I posted in the above. The fact they ran no huddle last year and they are not in 2014 is an issue you MUST address when looking at the analytics of it.

Cleveland fans also for the most part believed that the Colts raped the Browns in the Trent Richardson trade. It is way too early to be condemning Pettine. They are 1-2 after 3 pretty tough games, all of which went down to the wire. Personally, I would take Pettine over Marrone as HC in a heartbeat.

We could go around in analytical circles. How about opponents? Maybe that's why the defense looks better? The Bills in 2013 faced the Pats*, Panthers, Jest. How do they compare to the Bears, Dolphins, Chargers? Are their offenses similar, is the scheme similar? What about players who didn't play in the game?

The 2014 Buffalo Bills at this point in the season, 3 games in, are sitting at a better place than they were last year, that is a fact. The question that was asked was "Anyone wish Pettine was still here", looking at where the team is (2-1) and where the defense is, I don't wish he was.

But, in case you were wondering Bills 2013 Defense Y/Attempt pass: 7.6; Bills 2014 Defense Y/attempt pass: 7.4 (through 3 games)

Shall I go any further?

If you are too stubborn to accept this fact than I don't know what to say. But good work posting yards per attempt with the pass defense now what are the rest of the metrics that show yards/attempt?

Based on his worse record? Their D is one of the worst in the NFL and they have a worse record. It is still very early but how anyone can say Pettine is a better coach than Marrone at this point is just silly.
