Grantlands Nfl Podcast on the Bills

Recommended Posts

Their main takes on the Bills. 5-11 Season.

Replacing the horror of brown/legursky will be the horror of Chris Williams. Which will be the main downfall alongside the loss of Kiko.

Schwartz and Jerry Hughes alongside with the loss of Byrd will cause the defense to regress and be mediocre.

EJ Watkins woods etc might be good down the road but don't expect a big jump in year 2.

Running game will be solid.

At the end they lost all credibility by trashing the mighty #21 mclockdown, but they do like Bradham fwiw.

For whatever it's worth, they discussed selecting the next division to cover on their NFC East podcast last week. They contemplated the AFC East, but chose the West instead because they didn't want to have to do research on the Bills. Soo I don't think they were going to come out praising the Bills based on their earlier bias, which may or may not turn out to be fair.

Grantland has some really good stuff, but it also includes stuff from Bill Simmons and his wannabes (see: exalted fans who, in spite of their explicit biases and total lack of accuracy when it comes to projections, get to publish front page material on ESPN....actually now that I think about it, that's 95% of sports media). It's like listening to a Matthew Berry podcast...while you might find yourself entertained, you certainly don't want to put any money on the things they're saying.

I missed where Jairus Byrd made us a playoff team all these years. Oh wait, he didn't. He was good but people need to get a grip. He wasn't the heart and soul of the defense.

Are the Bills better with Jairus Byrd and Aaron Williams at safety or Aaron Williams and one of Duke Williams/Da'Norris Searcy/Jonathan Meeks? How will they replace the turnovers, particularly in a new defensive scheme? We will soon find out.

No one player make a team playoff worthy, except perhaps the QB and that's being discussed elsewhere. The Bills allowed Byrd to walk and saved some money in the process. They then signed Chris Williams, Keith Rivers, and Corey Graham in UFA. We'll see if this plan works.

How did you manage to completely gloss over our best FA signing who may actually be the one player who can get us to the playoffs: Brandon Spikes!?

The Bills are I believe leading the league in interceptions this preseason, so there is that.

The have played an extra game, but Searcy has made two in four games playing less than half in each. And he is the strong safety.

That said, to think that the Bills won't miss Byrd, one of the very best players in the league at his position, is just absurd.

They didn't really care for Brandon Spikes.

Called him a Parcells linebacker. People act like coverage is the be all end all for linebackers in this passing league.

Gotta stop the run first.

IIRC barnwell said we have the worst tight ends in the league. That's a big problem if no one steps up.
