ESPN NFL NYJ - Safety Ed Reed on verge of signing with Jets after being released by Texans

knows the rex ryan defense already - likely just a role player but good spot for him. my list of favorites was NE, NYJ, and NO

@Edwerderespn

NFL scouts say tape shows Ed Reed has lost significant speed, inconsistent tackler. Has to play better to provide meaningful leadership

@RapSheet

Will be curious to see how effective Ed Reed is for the Jets. Scouts who have studied him say he isn’t the same following hip surgery.

ditto. I didn't like NO because he didn't fit the MO but could have been had if other Ryan got his way

he will be in a locker room where guys grew up playing madden as him. even if he doesnt play a snap, he will have the opportunity to be a well respected mentor, potentially.

Is this why these two organizations are going in different directions? If he has experience in Ryan's defense does that mean he also has experience in Pettine's defense? Could he have been a good acquisition considering Byrd's status for next year and us not having any legitimate depth at safety?

Discuss.

As great as he was he's just not the same. This move doesn't bother me at all, I don't want to Bills to sign over the hill vets. If they have to replace Byrd replace him with a guy free agent in his prime or a talented young guy who can grow into the job.

it would make little sense on many fronts from both our and his perspective.

he wants to go to a team with a playoff shot, i imagine in a city hes spent much time, and is likely done at the close of this year. i dont think there is any reason to believe he would play for any team next year, let alone be an answer for starting free safety.

I don't think so. It's been painful watching such a great player struggle like he has this year. It's taking him twice as many steps to cover the same ground and he looks timid on the field. Not his game at all.

GO BILLS!!!

It's very simple. The Jets have a tenuous grip on a playoff spot right now, and coaching jobs may in fact be on the line for them if they miss it. At best he has a handful of great games left, and that depends on a great many factors, with health and assignments being the big ones. For the Bills to have made that move given current events, you would have to ask what he brings to the table next year first.

I Would be shocked to see him on the field on Sunday. He would need to learn a bit on the terminology before getting on the field, even if he does know the defensive schemes.

Very isolated packages wouldn't shock me, full time (even when up to speed) would surprise me
