November rolls in and starts off a highly anticipated Holiday Season of movies. The Oscar race will now shift into high gear as many big name and small name titles will be looking to attract moviegoers into seeing some of the years best. There will also be titles that will be ignored by the academy, but instead will reap the benefits at the box office. As always is the case there is a little bit of everything this month to satisfy nearly everyone's appetite at the cinemas.

After years of being in development and casting changes, director Steven Spielberg bring us his biopic "Lincoln" to the big screen with Daniel Day-Lewis in the lead role. As the Civil War continues to rage, America's president struggles with continuing carnage on the battlefield and as he fights with many inside his own cabinet on the decision to emancipate the slaves. The story of this country's 16th president getting the Spielberg touch and Day-Lewis playing the part appears to be both box office & awards gold. If the public embraces this film, it could very well be. Also starring Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, John Hawkes, David Strathairn, Jackie Earle Haley, Lee Pace & Hal Holbrook.

Daniel Craig returns as agent 007 in "Skyfall". Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. This is Craig's third turn as Bond and fans are very eager for another chapter with him in the lead. Also starring Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris & Albert Finney. Directed by Sam Mendes.

Director Robert Zemeckis returns from a 3 year hiatus and brings along Denzel Washinton in the drama "Flight". An airline pilot saves a flight from crashing, but an investigation into the malfunctions reveals something troubling. Also starring John Goodman, Don Cheadle, Bruce Greenwood & Melissa Leo.

Disney releases it's latest non-Pixar computer animated video game anti-hero film "Wreck-It Ralph". A video game villain wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives. Starring the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jane Lynch, Jack McBrayer & Dennis Haysbert.

You can not have a Disney animated movie in one month without a Dreamworks animated movie, can you? Dreamworks releases it's children's mythology hero tale "Rise of the Guardians". When the evil spirit Pitch launches an assault on Earth, the Immortal Guardians team up to protect the innocence of children all around the world. Starring the voices of Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin, Isla Fisher, Chris Pine, Dakota Goyo & Jude Law.

Bradley Cooper & Jennifer Lawrence star in the David O. Russell directed "Silver Linings Playbook". After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own. Also starring Robert DeNiro, Jacki Weaver, Julia Stiles & Chris Tucker.

Russell Crowe & Lucy Liu star in "The Man with the Iron Fists". On the hunt for a fabled treasure of gold, a band of warriors, assassins, and a rogue British soldier descend upon a village in feudal China, where a humble blacksmith looks to defend himself and his fellow villagers. Also starring Rick Yune, Cung Le, Dave Bautista, Daniel Wu, RZA & Jamie Chung.

After years of sitting on the shelf, Filmdistrict releases the action re-make "Red Dawn" starring a pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth. A group of teenagers look to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers. Also starring Isabel Lucas, Josh Hutcherson, Josh Peck, Adrianne Palicki & Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Finally, after four years of eye-popping and head scratching box office success, the vampire romance series comes to an end with "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2". After the birth of Renesmee, the Cullens gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Volturi. Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Dakota Fanning, Maggie Grace, & Billy Burke.

You forgot about "Red Dawn" because there will be little to no promotion for it. It will quietly be released and on dvd in time for Christmas.

Even if the movie is good, this is a different time we live in. The Cold War made patriotism cool. Today a lot of people see the USA as the oppressors of the world, even a lot of people who are born and raised here feel that way. The last thing they want to see are a bunch of young white soldiers fighting to take their country back.

I wish I did, because they do have some good young talent in this movie, and I like Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Thanks as always Mark. Im really pumped for the Bond movie and really looking forward to Lincoln. Im a history buff and the civil war has always fascinated me

The Civil War is an unbelievable time. I like that "Lincoln" looks to be just about his time as president and not about his whole life. I love Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis is a great actor. Having said that, there is something about this movie as a whole that feels a bit odd. I find the casting of Sally Field & Tommy Lee Jones to be questionable, and I hope they can show the greatness of Lincoln without being preachy. I just get the feeling that Spielberg might play it safe instead of being daring.

I think this is the first time I've wanted to see each of the first four movies in one of these threads. This is shaping up to be one expensive month for me (and then of course all those Christmas presents I'll need to start buying). Thank god for that gift card I got for my birthday.

But yeah, Bond clearly rules the day out of this list.

I've never seen any of the Daniel Craig Bond flicks. That said, some local vendors are hosting a pre-screening party next week where we listen to them talk about their products for an hour and then watch Skyfall. Are the stories pretty standalone, or will I not know what's going on if I watch it? I'm assuming they're standalone, but... :)

I know how much you have on your plate, so understandable that you haven't seen them....but just be sure to see Casino Royale before Quantum of Solace, cause they go hand in hand. Skyfall should be a stand alone film.

I did not mention that because Tarantino is only producing that film, RZA is the director.

Ah, I didn't realize that. You sure wouldn't guess it from the previews on TV. Thanks for pointing it out.

That's the power of advertising.

Saying "Quentin Tarantino Presents", adds more marquee value. They did the same thing for "Hostel", even though Tarantino had absolutely nothing to do with that movie either, as far as writing & directing goes.

Is it really? So much was left in the air after Quantum of Solace that I expected this one to tie in quite a bit.
