Power rankings

Recommended Posts

power rankings are the most assinine, pointless, mind numbing waste of time in discussing a sport.

they are completely irrelevant to the game, to playoff implications, to statistics, to enjoyment of the sport, and to anything that could in any way be construed as a reason why a fan would follow the sport.

they exist solely for the purpose of generating page views for espn.com.

if i was the moderator of this site, i would allow

snuff films

child pornography

uploading of movies/music/video games and ebooks

copy/pasting of entire sections of websites that are locked to those who arent "insiders"

racial language

non-censorship of every word in the history of humanity

the planning of co-ordinated illicit activities including, but not limited to, terrorism, violence and the selling and/or purchasing of narcotics

and things far worse than all of those

before i allowed posting of links to power rankings.

FOR INSTANCE: in the magical kingdom in the clouds, where this list is constructed, lets just say that the God-appointed-ESPN-rulers-of-the-universe/the-NFL were allowed to hold a "tournament" of sorts for their power rankings, inviting the top 16 teams on their list. 1 plays 16, 2 plays 15, standard tournament affair. well, the cardinals are the "11th best" team in football, so they would be in, while we are the "25th best," so we would be out. yet we just went on the road, and beat them in their house? 3 days ago. so...?

That's how I feel about mock drafts LOL. But I like power rankings.

Try a religion based

Very interesting rankings: Patriots 3-3 ranked 7th. Bills 3-3 ranked 25th. Not that I disagree at all with the rankings but just shows how wacky this year has been.

Dumb and dumber

I'm OK with an average ranking of 15-20 at a 3-3 record for Buffalo. Yet #7 for the Putrids is too high.

I agree that power rankings are asinine but my goodness, Debbie Downer at her finest...

Who cares what the national pundits say, this is just an opinion. What do they say about opinions? I think a lot of people have them and they all smell like poo. A lot like a part of the anotomy that everyone has, or at least I hope everyone has.

this is bandwagon at it's "finest"

behind the 2-3 Cowboys, Lions and Buc's? The Iggles have to be rated as one of the worst 3-3 teams.

The 2-3 Pittsburgh Steelers have been outscored 40-16 in the fourth quarter on the road this season. ring a bell?

And I like the Saints but 1 behind them with a 1-3 record? WTF

This is a bit of a surprise from walker

http://espn.go.com/b...up-the-afc-east

Buffalo Bills

Walker's Week 7 Power Ranking: No. 3

New York Jets

Walker's Week 7 Power Ranking: No. 4

If you've been keeping up with Walker, you'll have noticed that he called NYJ season done after Revis went down. This is him sticking to his guns. I think the Jets will eventually disposed, and had a good game against a young and inexperience team last week. Should the Jets be rated above the Bills at this point, based on record? Sure. However, these are opinions of how he sees the AFC East going from here, at least at this point. It'll change 23413446234x throughout the season.

good point. I looked at SI.com The Putrids are #5 and the Bills #24 and after a W - Last Week: 21

Now that's just insane...and asinine...I wonder how many times I can post asinine in this thread. Asinine is such a fun word to use, but if you use it to many times it just become asinine.

Power rankings are nice, but so are ceramic dalmatians.

It's interesting to look at and creates a discussion (e.g., are the 3-3 Jets really a better team than the 3-3 Bills?), which is exactly what the outlets want. At the end of the day, though, it's still pointless.
