You herd it hear last
Here's your scenario: You are playing in the Superbowl TOMORROW! (I know it's July, play along) You can choose between an "All-Star" Bills defense from the last decade and this years unproven, yet uber-talented "paper" D. Remember, though those Dicky J. squads didn't exactly scare many, though devoid of talent at any given point, they played hard and were paired with some of the most inept offenses in Bills history. And have I mentioned that this years team hasn't won or done anything yet? Are there any players from those D units that would be an upgrade to our current position holders? Go at it... mrags
I'd take Schobel at RDE instead of Anderson or whoever is there at this point. I'd possibly take Poz at LB instead or either Shephard or Morrison. I'd take Greer over McGee. After that, that's about it.
Optometric Insight
This would've been a nice poll. Both scenarios are basically the same. Both groups haven't played together but I'm going to assume that with the All-Stars, each and every player will play at the level they played at the peak of their career. After all that, I would go with the All-Stars. All I picture is the defense from the 31-0 shutout vs. New England. Lot of trust worthy players on that team that still play today as a solid veteran presence. We would have still have a lot of players that are on the team right now like K. Williams, McGee, Byrd, and Kelsay along with other players like Schobel, Sam Adams, P. Williams, Spikes, Fletcher, Clements, Winfield. I would take this years defense if it wasn't for the fact that we will probably have a rookie and 2nd year CB leading the starting at that position. Lets take the proven players into battle and leave nothing up to chance.

I'll take the 1999 Bills defense in a heartbeat!!!!!! Henry Jones Sam Rogers John Holecek Phil Hansen Kurt Schulz Bruce Smith Ted Washington Antoine Winfield Pat Williams Marcellus Wiley Sorry, but to me they were more talented. The 99 defense was amazing. No doubt. But the OP stated the last decade. 99 would be 13 years. That's not in the decade. I think the point is because in the last decade we have had some pretty bad talent.

NewEra
I'd take schobel over Anderson Spikes over Morrison Sam Cowart over Sheppard. Or fletcher, if Cowart stint was in an era you're not including. Winfield over Williams/McGee. I'd have a problem replacing Gilmore, even though he hasn't taken a snap, the kid is ultra talented. That is all. dpberr
I'll take the coming attraction defense. The NFL rules have changed. Defenses of yesteryear would have a hard time adjusting if we're talking about just one game with all the changes regarding pass interference, protecting the quarterback, etc. Different game today than it was even ten years ago. NickelCity
? I believe he's referring to your roster, compiled of players from various seasons, and the question provided by the OP: You can choose between an "All-Star" Bills defense from the last decade and this years unproven, yet uber-talented "paper" D. Regardless, you put together a solid D. I might tweak it, but still.

I believe he's referring to your roster, compiled of players from various seasons, and the question provided by the OP: Regardless, you put together a solid D. I might tweak it, but still. To add another couple sentences: The choice was between the current roster and the Bills all stars from the last decade. If you can add whatever members you want from the current roster to the all stars team, then of course that's better than just the current team. I'm somewhat guilty of thinking that way as well since a young healthy McGee would be on my team.
