Keep in mind that they have parachutes so it's essentially base jumping to start. So if they don't "fly" they just pull the cord. I assume the key is finding the right place to do it. But if they are being flying squirrels at first and something goes wrong, I still imagine them smashing into the cliff even if they get the parachute deployed in time.
