The Romney Campaign

Recommended Posts

No, I don't believe its some sort of "brilliant" strategy on Romney's part, I just honestly think that the base genuinely doesn't like him. They don't see him as one of them, he's too plastic for their taste, he isn't uncompromising enough, he's not as socially conservative as they ideally would like, he's a mormon which cannot be discounted when you are dealing with so many righwing evangelicals and lets not forget, he created Romney care.

I would say that all these issues could pose problems in the general election, its not as if these voters wont come out to vote for Obama, and I still believe that the vast majority will vote for Romney anyhow, but if 5-10% of these hardcore right wingers don't turn out, that could end up being an aggregate total of 1-2% less for him, and this race I believe could end up being really close. So, I think it's imperative that Romney picks someone that fires up the base, attracts to the latino voter, while not alienating independents. I believe the choice has to appeal to all three of these points. I saw that Rob Portman could possibly be the choice, and even though from a substantive point of view, I believe he is a very bright economic powerhouse, he's too dull, won't fire up the base and worked as the budget man for Bush. So politically speaking he'd be an awful pick. Rubio, Christie, McDonnel from Va.who I like and ran a hell of a campaign n 2009 and would help bring Virginia back to the conservatives and Suzanna Martinez I would say would be the best choices. Having said that, only two of those I believe could attract the latino vote and thats Rubio and Martinez.

In regards to Romney care, yep, thats another weak point for Romney and without a doubt it is political liabilty for Obama, but for obvious reasons Romney would not be the best point man to attack him on this issue. So again, his VP selection would have to be the main attack dog,and of course all the SUPER PACS will without a doubt fill in the gaps where Romney lacks.

I think Romney's strategy is to be true to himself and let the chips fall where they might.

As for him not being socially conservative - he's been married to the same woman for around 40 years. He doesn't smoke, nor drink.

His being a Mormon will require the evangelistic bigots to search their own souls regarding their real views on religious tolerance.

Santorum's running for Pope and always looks like he walked into a locker room full of naked men. Newt's running for Lecturer in Chief and looks as healthy as the Michelin Man living in a nursing home.

Regarding Romney care - his debate with BO should stress the Constitutional argument that it is within a State's right to provide for its people whatever they so choose to do. The federal government has no such authority or powers to to that on a national level. Romneycare adhered to the Constitution. BOcare, not so much.

Rubio or Christie, either one would run circles around Flannel-mouthed Jokin' Joe from Delaware - the-blue-collar-everyman-who's-the-only-politician-alive-that-knows-what-it's-like-to-have-ever-worked-for-a-living.

I have disliked Romney since 2008 so I am certainly biased.

Romney lost those southern states because he can't close the deal. He will numb enough of the base that they won't vote in the general election. GOP statements in recent months will be an albatross that will sink his efforts to interest the largest voting demographic, women. He will get Gored as some saturnine business-savy automaton - a characteristic which has never attracted any significant independent contingent. He is running against an improving economy (which most voting persons are too doltish to put in proper context - they just attribute it to presidential policies).

I'm supporting BUDDY ROEMER. I'm even handing out informational brochures at DC, VA, MD metro stations on behalf of his campaign on weekends beginning in August. Gotta go grassroots!

Volunteers always wanted:

You dislike Romney who 'lost those southern states because he can't close the deal' but like Buddy 'I finished 3rd behind a crook and a racist' Roemer?

After Buddy was caught reading a book at a football game his political career was toast.

You keep telling yourself that, Scooter. In fact, tell all your liberal friends. I'll tell mine, too.

Romney will keep conservative voters at home! The GOP base will skip this election! Spread the word! Tell it to the NAACP! Put it in the SEIU newsletter! Put in on Detroit billboards!

Will do Skeeter.

There were plenty of politicians who were unsuccessful behind someone else and turned out later to be successful.

And Roemer's political gains and losses does not implicate Romney's ability to be a good leader or win a political contest.

I'm supporting Roemer because his vision is more aligned with the direction that I feel the country should be taking. And he is sincere...in my opinion.

If you think the GOP base will just lie down for a dude who'll possibly nominate 2 more Sonia Sotomayor clones, will have little to stop him from instituting any and all gun restrictions he can, and has seriously overestimated the strength of this "recovery" (99ers falling off the roles is not recovery), you're off your :censored: head.

I think many people at this point would be eager to vote for a business-savvy automaton, if that's what the left is intent on categorizing Romney as. Because compared to wanna-be 'Al Green Night' American Idol contestant who wants the government to pick up the check for everything for everybody....

This. For those Repubs who aren't enamored with Romney, it will be a "the rival of my enemy is my candidate" kind of thing. Independents see through Barry and won't be fooled again. And many in Barry's base don't like him (18% of Dems voting for Romney in Michigan...). And again, as I said, if the deal with Ron Paul is true...

Roemer has been off the stage for close to 20 years. He ran an awful campaign in '91 and his complete lack of traction indicate that he hasn't improved much (if at all) in the intervening years.

Roemer is a good man and has (or at least had) good ideas, but there is no way he ever comes close to sniffing the White House.

Have Jimmy Carville send out an email:

Think about Republicans pulling up in moving vans.

A boxful of attacks on women’s rights. A bagful of tax cuts for Big Oil corporations. And there’s an ugly lamp. There’s gotta be an ugly lamp.

When the moving crews leave, we’d have a President Romney or President Santorum with a Senate suited to the 16th century and Karl Rove and the Kochs on speed dial. Heck, you ladies might be lucky to keep your voting rights.

Republicans flip four of the 23 seats we’ve got up, and here come the trucks.

It’s our choice: We can let the Republicans move in – and there goes the neighborhood. Or we can re-elect President Obama, keep our Democratic Senate, and kick this Republican war on women to the curb. But we need to act NOW.

Give an immediate $5 or $10 to the DSCC. They’ve got a massive FEC goal -- $1,068,000 – and only 13 days to halt the Republican moving vans.

Click here to give $5 or $10 to the DSCC. The future of our nation – and neighborhood – depends on the choice you make right now!

Hit this goal, we’ll keep the Republican riffraff out of the neighborhood. Fall short, and we’re looking at years of the world’s worst neighbors.

You might think it’s early. Yeah, right. Karl Rove and his cronies are already running attack ads against our candidates. Are we gonna let them say nasty things about Sherrod Brown and Tammy Baldwin without fighting back? Heck no!

You might think Democrats are doing fine without your help. I hate to burst your pretty pink bubble, but some recent polls show Mitt Romney (bad neighbor) beating President Obama (best neighbor).

Here’s some real talk: We’re defending 23 Senate seats. These Republicans only need to flip four – four! – seats to gain complete control of Congress. That’s fewer seats than they gained last cycle.

We don’t have to settle for the world’s worst neighbors. Click here to give $5 or $10 to the DSCC. The choice you make right now will have lasting consequences!

Let’s hit this FEC goal, re-elect President Obama, and slam the brakes on the Republican moving van before they even think of hauling in that ugly lamp.

I'm really hoping that you're wrong and that he can win.

If he doesn't win, I'm hoping that he can leverage his support into a post in a GOP White House. Maybe he can then parlay that into a strong run in 2020.

Not sure how he converts an independent run at the WH into a cabinet post.

There are too many young up & comers in the GOP to believe that Roemer will ever make a strong run. And even if he switches back to having a 'D' before his name, I don't see him gaining much traction from that side of the aisle.

He ticked off too many power brokers back in Red Stick to believe he could ever get elected back to statewide office much less national office. Throw in his lack of name recognition outside of the Pelican State and I just don't see him as a major player even 8 years from now.

That was eerily realistic.

It's a real email from James Carville. See, unlike all the partisan toads I get emails from every part of the political spectrum. That's actually a below average "fear mongering" email from the left. They come out with some real doozies. Not that the wacko righties are significantly different.

Oh, and don't forget to cut each of them a check for whatever you can give. <_<

Not that the wacko righties are significantly different.

Some of the emails I get from the right scare me. My deeper involvement in politics led me into this obscure web of email traffic that was just ridiculous.

The best came from a local right wing verbal bomb thrower named Diana Pauley (or something like that) who I've come to stay far away from. She's running for a local office here, and I got an email from her announcing her candidacy. Unfortunately, her email address was something like TIMEFORDP@aol.com. I responded to her email with "Diana, whle I'm conservative, I still like my porn and you may want to consider changing your email address."

Haven't heard from her since.

At a rally today,

Question from woman in Peoria, Illinois: "So you’re all for like, 'yay, freedom,' and all this stuff. And 'yay, like pursuit of happiness.' You know what would make me happy? Free birth control."

Romney: "You know, let me tell you, no no, look, look let me tell you something. If you’re looking for free stuff you don’t have to pay for, vote for the other guy. That’s what he’s all about, okay? That’s not, that’s not what I’m about."

Schit I almost forgot about Illinois tonight. I wonder if the headline from the MSM tomorrow is going to be...."Republican Race drags on...Romney unable to get above 50%". Or, whatever other "move the goal posts" retardedness they go to this time.

Some of the emails I get from the right scare me. My deeper involvement in politics led me into this obscure web of email traffic that was just ridiculous.

  You FAILed

Dude, if anybody beside you gets a hold of this.... She is literally begging to be brutally trolled. What's the over/under on number of days until she breaks down and asks somebody what your email means? God wouldn't you like to be there for that explanation?

See that's the thing about these social conservative people. They have no experience with the things they supposed hate. Their arguments are based on ignorance, emotion, or absurdity. So they inevitably trip over ironic speed bumps....generating mucho hilarity along the way.

Sound familiar, there, far left people? One might say that Rick Santorum etc. talking about porn has = propensity for hilarity as Nancy Pelosi etc. talking about business/economics.

What a complete joke our media is !

So the "reporters" from the newspapers and TV that have been assigned to cover Mitt Romney are invited over to the Chicago Obama headquarters and they just trot on over.

No problem there, I am sure.

Obama HQ briefs Romney's press corps

The Obama 2012 team hosted an off-the-record briefing for Mitt Romney's press corps at Chicago headquarters today, reporters tell me.

Obama press secretary Ben La Bolt and deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter hosted the event, during which reporters were given a tour of the office and asked questions about the Obama team's strategy and outlook on the 2012 race. Campaign manager Jim Messina is said to have made a cameo appearance.

Reporters described the event as unrevelatory and said nothing groundbreaking was discussed, but also described it as an important "get-to-know-you" session for the TV, print, and wire reporters in attendance.

The Romney campaign, which has had a complicated relationship with its press corps, seems to have been unaware that the meeting took place.

In separate emails, press secretaries Andrea Saul and Rick Gorka would not say if they had known about the meeting. But both seemed unfazed.

"That's fine. We brief them on the failures of the Obama White House every day," Saul emailed.

"That's fine, we brief them on what a failure the President has been on a daily basis," Gorka wrote.

The problem here isn't the media. The problem is that Romney is running against a Democratic opponent who is very, very desperate. They have no story of their own, so they are specifically doing whatever they can to usurp any wind the Romney campaign may get (i.e. a press conference on Super Tuesday).

It'll be up to Romney to figure a way around it, and to understand that no matter where he goes or what he does, the Obama campaign will do whatever it can to keep people from focusing on anything of relevance. Outside of somehow convincing Americans that the economy and employment numbers are improving -- not very likely -- it's the Obama campaign's only chance.
