Whoa, whoa, whoa. Bruce and the E-Street opened the show and they were amazing. I though Bruno Mars was great too, nice little throwback to classic Motown. Then the show sucked fierce until Adele came on and reminded people that talent can sometimes overcome crappy commercialism. I'm not a big fan of her kind of music but her talent is undeniable. She has a remarkable voice. My favorite part of the performance was the end where they panned across her "contemporaries" and they all had this look of: "F***, she just made us all look like sh**."

just watched adele's performance on tivo. you're absolutely correct. the reactions were priceless. the more fluff, the more intimidation and vice versa. not generally a fan of bruno mars but he did one of the better performances that i've seen from last night. and while probably considered sacrilege, i didn't think much of the first act. as bruces go, i frankly prefer hornsby. morbid curiosity is pushing me to tee up the beach boys number next.

So...you mean every Foo Fighters song?

THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST

Say what you want about the new dubstep trend, but when deadmau5 came on and "infected" the Foo Fighters during Rope, that was pretty good theater.

I adore idiots who brag about Sonny Moore being inovative. The dude did not invent anything, he is not even that original. "Skillrex" did have as much as Korn.

Enjoyed seeing the Beach Boys & thought Maroon 5 & Foster the People performed their songs very well.

One of the better recent performances by Paul McCartney...enjoyed their jam at the end.

Man, that Jennifer Hudson can sing! and Adele...wow!!!

Overall thought it was a good show (thank goodness for the fast forward button for the actual award presentations and the baffoon performing the exorcism "song"!).

Foo Fighters is metal? I always thought they were as metal as, say, Jethro Tull, who would never win a Grammy for...

...wait. Never mind. :wallbash:

Yeah, exactly. :wallbash:

And somehow Foo Fighters won for both rock AND metal....:wallbash: :wallbash:

random thoughts after watching the tivo:

has joe walsh found the fountain of youth? the antidote to drug abuse?

beach boys were better than i thought they'd be but that's not a huge compliment

gotta check out "civil wars" stuff...wish they did a whole track and taylor swift did a snippet

didn't she do "mean" on the grammys last year?

blake shelton's version was better than glen campbell's original

overall the show was more entertaining than the first 45 mins suggested.

Turned it on for 5 mins. Saw Lady Gaga with a fishnet over her face and a golden staff. Katie Perry had blue hair, and Adele had a regular dress on. I immediately rooted for Adele and she won. Next Chris Brown performed...changed the channel and refused to go back.

Music has declined exponentially over the past few decades, with the exception of a few good bands. I can't handle this new pop CRAP. Country music is higher on my list than many of the stuff that comes out these days.

I may sound like a grumpy old man, but I'm 23...if I'm upset with this music I can only imagine what you fine older gents think about this new age.

My friend, you just stated exactly why I LOVE all the music threads that go down on TBD. I hardly ever turn on the radio anymore, but yet my music collection is growing at a faster rate than ever. Just between this site and the music circle forum over at audiocircle.com, I find so much new stuff to listen to that I can barely even keep up with it.

That's funny...I just recommened the Civil Wars to a fellow TBD'er a week or two ago. That's typically not my favorite type of music, but I really connected with the lyrics and their vocals.

That's your problem right there. There is plenty of good music out there. However, the Grammys isn't the place to find it.

Exactly right.

Deadmau5 gets more time on my iPod than just about anything else these days...the new album is fantastic.

i would not be on this thread if not for ff button. 3.5 hours..... damn. anyway here is my take. my scope of music is sick. im not bragging. its just my thing. some people like movies, i like music.

the performance of the night TO ME, goes to deadmau. he outperformed david guetta.

no love for coldplay? chris martin did paradise very well. their last album was actually pretty weak. freaking letdown. they're my fave.

chris brown has mad moves. i wish i could dance half as good as him. he was a+ sunday and the song was good too

adele is madly insanely good. shes even pretty now.

taylor swift. true story. i bought taylor swifts last album. hell i bought most of her stuff. make fun of me. who gives a sh. anyway. back to my true story. im listening to her album in my car. i get to mean song. remember, im a swift fan. i say to myself, "what a corny and childish song. catchy tune though" end of story. the only thing that was EVER ok about this dumb little song was that she changed the lyrics sunday. she said, "someday I'LL BE SINGING THIS SONG AT THE GRAMMYS, and you'll be mean....."

nicky minaj. i would love to have an affair with this woman!!! oops. she is ok when she wants to be. for madonnas video she looks like a very pretty cheerleader and pretty voice. she has undeniable rap talent. sunday night with that act.... scary and not my typical tv.

beach boys?????? wha?????? still???

ps. good music is till out there. even if its old stuff from 1950s 60 70s or any age. you just have to search for it.

Can someone breakdown the difference between the awards for "Song", "Album", "Record" and "Performance"? Aren't they doubling up somewhere in there?

I feel like Frank Costanza at the Ross' dinner party. "You have the hen, the rooster and chicken. Who's having sex with the chicken??"

A lot of it is throwback to the days of vinyl.

Song is for composer & lyricist

Performance is for the artist

Record is for the single (a la 45 variety)

Album was created when 33s were in vogue

So yes, if you have a great album with many great songs on it that spawned many singles, you will clean up the awards.

BTW, Bon Iver getting an award? Seriously?

last week npr had a run up series to the grammys. the reporter stated that the difference between best song and best record was, as GG said, the song is judged on the sheet music while tyhe record is judged on the production as a whole- orchestration, engineering, vocals etc.

What, no award for best penmanship on the original song notes?
