Very proud of this team

Recommended Posts

- I saw a lot of kneejerk reactions from fans yesterday after that loss......Fitz sucks...team sucks.....wide receivers suck......Gailey sucks......(did I miss anybody) look....you have the right to do what you want as fans but COME ON MAN

- The team does not suck....it just isnt a finished product. With the exception of a couple of games we have been bad on defense all year. I am mostly disapointed about our run defense because I got the feelign they felt they could run on us whenever they wanted and we have been pretty solid in stopping the run this year (and yes I know they didnt get 100 yards rushing and yes I know the stats dont support our run support dominance.....but from watching the games you can see that we are much improved overall in that area)

- Fitz DEFINATELY does not suck.....he simply had a bad game. QB's even good ones do that from time to time. He was flustered, threw innacurate balls, threw into coverage, etc etc etc....but the same reason why people hated him yesterday is also the same reason why people love him.....he takes chances.....he has supreme confidence....he WILL throw the ball into coverage because he thinks his man will come away with the ball. Next week he will probably throw that same ball and his WR will end up coming away with it.

- Chan Gailey got outcoached yesterday and admitted as such.....the game plan was bad.....the execution wasn't great.......he admitted that he got away from the running game way too fast. If you want to establish being physical it starts with running the ball.....you have to run the ball.....then that opens up the play action and you are in a better rythum. Also...the WR sets were all bad because you allowed for Revis to actually cover two WR's on routes due to how they were run. A grand total of TWO screens yesterday....one of successful the other got blown up.

- We turned the ball over in a game where we could not afford to.

- We allowed the jets to march down the field over and over....chewing up clock.....first down after first down...and eventually the levy broke and the jets started putting points on the board fast.

BUT

I love this team....I fully believe that Chan will make adjustments for this next game...I fully believe that even in the Meadowlands this Bills team will come out with fire....

The bills are for real....I believe.....so many games left to be played in this season and we are 5-2 and have a piece of the lead in the AFC East......

To hell with the white pom poms and to hell with the white flag.......lets roll!

The thing that confused me most yesterday was Gailey's play calling. Yup, only 2 screens. No stacked receivers. No Brad Smith. No Spiller out wide (that I remember). Bland running plays (3 yards and a cloud of dust, something Gailey said, as a team, "We don't do.").

Anywho, it looked to me like we don't match up well with the Jets. Their DB's made our WR's look beyond pedestrian. Except for the awesome fake-out that Stevie had on Revis. That was brilliant. And I hate to say it, but I think no Kelsay out there really hurt us too...but we'll never know.

JFH - great post but it will be interesting to see how the Bills play the Jets in Jersey. If they come back and play a physical, tough and smart game (and hopefully win) then we will see the Bills have taken a big step forward. If the season ended today I would say the Bills had a great year.

They are still a work in progress but at least the ship appears to be going in the proper direction.

I'm with you, John. Practically nobody here thought we'd be 5-3 at the halfway mark with a share of first place. Our defense still isn't very good, but as a whole this team is a lot better than last year, and with the addition of a couple more playmakers at WR and OLB, as well as a healthy Kyle Williams and others, we should be in great shape for the next few years.

It's hard not to be. We may not have the talent of a playoff team, but we definitely have the character. That being said we're 5-3 and are very much in the running for a playoff spot. with a little more size up front on the defense and an extra corner, this team could go far. But for now let's fight for that wild card. Fight on my men Sir Andrew said...

Not everyone is jumping off the bandwagon. I won't post much this week because it sickens me to read the board after a loss, but I'm fully supportive of this team and its leadership.

Couple of Ws the next two weeks, and the 7-3 Bills go to NJ for a little payback.

I agree 100%...this is a team that was an after thought nationally, then became darlings, and is now in the gutter? They're tied for 1st in the division and got a half the season to prove who they are. I still think they have a chance to make the playoffs and if not, theres always next season, which will have a full set of OTA's and trainning camp to get better. This team is on the rise and one game doesnt define them, good or bad.

ps. GO BILLS!

Great post, I agree with pretty much all you said. It seems like people were expecting to go undefeated or something...every time we lose it's all doom and gloom, and the whole to organization gets questioned. Losses are inevitable, as are a few clunky games...it happens to every team in the league. We got beat today by the Jets (with some assistance from us), and we never really showed up offensively until the end of the game where it was too late. That urgency was desperately needed from the start of the game, but it just wasn't there. We played a poor game and we will hopefully learn from it. Still though, the turn around from being 0-8 in the first half of last season to being 5-3 right now is great, and we've shown a lot of unexpected promise. This year was written off by everyone as a mediocre re-building year, so this is like an unexpected gift...yet people act like this is a given and we should be winning every game with non-stop excellence. That is just not realistic at all.

I also stand by Fitz as I believe he can keep us competitive in this league for a few years until we get a young, long-term ace QB. He had an ugly game yesterday but apart from that he's been a top 10 QB. His completion % has been very good, has been great in the red zone, thrown us a bunch TDs, and along with the O-line done a great job of minimizing sacks. Let's nit forget Fitzy was Septembers AFC player of the month. Think about that...a BILLS QB getting that honor. When was the last time that happened?

- I saw a lot of kneejerk reactions from fans yesterday after that loss

I haven't really been on the board to see the knee jerk reactions you are talking about with how busy I have been. However, I found your comment curious...

Is it really fair to call peoples reactions "knee jerk reactions" when this team was just man handled on our own field for our 3rd loss in 5 games by a key divisional rival that we still face again soon? It was an embarrassing loss...

I am stoked to see improvements this year and think we are headed in the right direction. However, lets face the facts, this team is in danger of turning into the 08 team with a hot start and still missing the playoffs. I think this team is better than the 08 team, however, I can see why people are frustrated as its going to be a tough road to the playoffs from here on out as 10 wins may not even get you in. And with a fan base that's suffered for so long, not making the playoffs after a 5-2 start again is a tough pill to swallow.

What are you proud of?

They got their teeth kicked in yesterday and were completely exposed for what they are. A finesse football team. I'd be shocked if they go into Dallas this week and win. I think the Bills lost the game and some confidence after that ass kicking yesterday.

Isn't it funny how the waiting-for-the-other-shoe-to-drop pessimists only think that losses "expose a team for what they are"? Yes, winning big upsets against the Patriots and Eagles is just something that randomly occurred, but one bad loss against the Jets unearths some latent suckitude

Oh, but I forgot. The Jets game happened most recently, so it's the only thing that counts.

Trust me, I suffer no delusions about how bad yesterday sucked. But it was one game, and it certainly doesn't negate all the positive things that have happened this year.

I agree, everyone seems to fall off the band wagon at every loss. Never seen so many flip floppers. Im proud to be a Bills fan. I bleed it through and through. Sure, I was upset with our loss but after thinking about it this game was the first loss all year where we were outplayed. I think thats why fans are taking it so hard. I blame the loss on our game plan going in there. Chan wanted to test Revis with quick slants and so on. Wish we just stayed away from that side of the field or just kept going long until they werent jamming us on every play. Gailey admitted the game plan was flawed and he even admitted that he got away from the run and made the offense too predictable. We will learn from this loss. Dont expect the same game next time we play them.

GO BUFFALO!

PS Our defense played well, and would have looked better if our offense did their job.

This wasn't addressed to me, and I am not a pessimist as I like the improvements that we have seen. However, I feel the need to chime in here...

1. We got some lucky breaks to win the Pats game. I don't care how much you love the Bills, the truth is that if you are a realist then you know we got a few breaks to make that come back possible...but that's football. Still, it was not a convincing win by any means that would say we are a lock to win the second meeting. In fact, unless Brady gets hurt, we won't even be favorites in that game.

2. Eagles were not the same team they are now. They were a bunch of talented guys thrown together who did not know how to play with each other. They are a much better team now. We would have a much harder time beating them today and again would not be favorites in that game either.

3. This team is 2-3 in our last 5 games with one of those wins against Was where we were not overly impressive on offense against a very bad team. Now we are coming off a game where our offense looked like a pop warner team against the Jets.

4. Our defense isn't good enough for us to win games when our offense stuggles, and our offense has cooled down quite a bit in the last 5 games.

5. Fitz has thrown for less than 200 yards in 3 of the last 5 games. Our D cant stop anyone, and we will need a high powered offense to over come a lot of the deficiencies on D, so we need to figure out how to move the ball again.

The kneejerk reaction was not so much on losing the game.....we were all upset that we lost....its the all or nothing attitude about the thing. We were not good this week so the team just sucks....Fitz is a bad QB because he was not good this week......Chan is not good because he lost this week......and on and on and on

Its ONE game out of a SIXTEEN GAME season....that is the part that drives me nuts about kneejerk reactions. If the bills start stringing losses together....then this is when you should be hearing this stuff.....not after one loss.

The bills ARE GOING TO LOSE GAMES....we are not a powerhouse no matter how badly some want them to be...they are a young team.....like a baby learning how to get up and take those steps after crawling around on the ground before that....its not going to be perfect....we are going to slip and fall sometimes.

The question is....will this team pick itself up and try again...will it learn from its mistakes and not repeat them?

In my mind there is only one way for us to beat the jets.

- Pound the ball.....grind the damn thing out.....

- Convert 3rd downs

- Force punts

- Shut down their running game

We do those things and we win. Eventually we will get to the point where we can do that but we are in YEAR TWO of a SUCCESSFUL rebiuld. The team just feels right...it feels like finally for once in a very long time (like a decade) the team is heading in the right direction.....the people guiding the ship are doing a good job....etc etc.
