Hapless Bills Fan Posted September 6, 2011 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Nobody on this board would rather be wrong about it being only Parrish, and have it be multiple guys kicking ass, more than me. I would love to see what amounts to an updated for 2011 "run and shoot" offense...that can also run the ball consistently, and involves the TE position...somehow. I don't know how, I am not an NFL coach. Here's what I do know: If Spiller can motion out to one slot, which should also expose the defense they are playing btw, and have Roscoe in the other...that's nasty. How many team's 3-4th best corner can cover those guys? Or the other way, how many team's 3rd best corner can cover Steve Johnson? You work in the TE, David Nelson, and disguise a few plays that look like short ones, but are actually bombs to Johnson...this could be good. We'll see. Right now I see Parrish being more experienced, and more likely to be in position to make plays...with the occasional big play going to Johnson. That's the thing. We almost HAVE to start hurting people with Parrish/Spiller/Fred Jackson catching balls, for Johnson to get a chance. Or, this could all be September Wishful Thinking Interesting points! I may not have worded that the way I meant. While I wasn't crazy about the pick with all the needs the Bills had, I do think Spiller has a ton of talent. I really believe he will have a breakout out year and score a couple of big runs this season. While I would like the 9th pick to contribute on a regular basis, he's on the team now and I just want him to break some big ones and give opposing defenses something to gameplan for. I know he's a WR, thanks I meant specific plays/routs that would normally be reserved for TEs. Nelson is the one WR on this team that I think can handle getting hit by a LB. It's hard to describe, cause I'm ignorant , but there has to be a TE "look" that actually ends up being Nelson running the route from the slot/wing back whatever. Along those lines, Ruvell Martin is about the same size as Nelson... "It surprised me how often they would go four wide receivers and have that fourth wideout do some different things that the tight end might do in other offenses that I've been in," Martin said. He's had a full year as an OLB and played much better in the 2nd half of last season than his horrific first half. This year he establishes himself as a credible starting NFL LB. dpberr Posted September 6, 2011 Share Posted September 6, 2011 My offense pick: Ryan Fitzpatrick. I feel this is the year he'll cement himself as the franchise quarterback. The continuity with the staff and receivers bodes well for a successful season. My defense pick: Nick Barnett. Provided he's healthy, he'll produce similar to 2007. 100+ tackles, few sacks, couple interceptions. The 2011 defense personnel mirrors, and in some ways, improves upon, the 2007 Packers defense. Very good post and I do understand. I am hoping for big things from Batten. I liked the pick a lot last year and he was obviously hurt. I don't know how long you have been a Bills fan, but I am hoping he is not the new version of Dan Brandenberg. DB was an olb who in preseason looked like a fast Bryce Paup. I don't have his preseason stats but he was sacking qbs at will. In real games, he was absolutely terrible. He couldn't even play special teams. It was just that frustrating. I mention Batten because I actually expect a dozen or more sacks from a healthy Merriman. The Bears game was all I had to see. He was the real deal, of this I am as certain as one can be. If Batten is for real they can rush on some plays from both sides, and have Kyle Williams and my man Dareus up the middle. Offense is imo a much sadder story. I think that the player most capable of stepping up is Fitz. He is very smart and very mobile, and might survive behind our sub-par OL. If they actually decide to devote resources to the OL next year, the Bills could conceiveably field a respectable football team. It's possible.
