Andy Dalton. Second pick in the Second

Recommended Posts

I've been analyzing all of the quarterbacks available in the draft and all I can say is I hope we don't go QB is the first. Nix and co. will be smart enough to go with one of the other top rated players and I'll just trust on their judgement. If you look at Newton/Gabbert, they don't meet Nix's oft stated policy on drafting players with consistent success. See: Phillip Rivers for an example of the type of stats he looks for. Nix NEVER would have allowed a Maybin to be drafted. Newton definitely not be drafted, get over it! Gabbert, maybe but I hope not.

Perhaps you've seen them before. There are other systems that predict success for QBs as well and DALTON FITS THEM ALL.

We can somewhat afford a bust in the second but not in the first.

DRAFT DALTON IN THE SECOND.

top of the 2nd seems a bit early, but agreed, i like the kid. if he could be had later in the draft that would be even better

+1

Second is too early for a QB. After we make a front 7 pick in round 1, the second pick should be another front 7 pick or a RT. I am thinking

Von Miller / Derrick Sherrod

or

Von Miller / Akeem Ayers

or

Von Miller / one of the DLine prospects that should have been picked in round 1 but falls.

I see Dalton as a career backup. Taking him in the 2nd round would be terrible. And you lose all credibility when you say we can somewhat afford a bust with our 2nd round pick but not our first. Our second round pick is essentially a first round pick because it's so high. How can anyone logically say that a team that is so bad with so many holes can somewhat afford to pick a bust player within its first 3 picks?

Seriously, Dalton isn't that good. The guy has average measurables. An average arm. Played in a gimmick offense with a ton of screen passes. And had the best defense in the country to back him up. Everyone likes to use the Parcells' rules when talking about drafting a QB but please tell me which QBs were drafted by Parcells? The list isn't very impressive.

Ah, Nix was actually looking for MAnning, not Rivers.

It was a big story...

I like Dalton over Ponder or Kaepernick, but in the 3rd or 4th round. He's got a good TD/INT ratio, completion percentage, won a lot of games in his career, works hard, and most importantly, is coachable.

He's the type of QB with good QB talent that could benefit from a year or two learning the game, behind Fitz.

I've seen mocks however, that have teams going for him in the 2nd.

Concerning the "Parcell Rules" article...

Tyrod Taylor, Virginia Tech (6/7)

Three-year starter? Yes

Senior? Yes

Graduate? Yes

30 games? Yes (49 played, 41 started)

23 wins? Yes (34)

2-to-1 ratio? Yes (44-to-20)

Above 60 percent? No (57.4%, but 60.6% Senior Yr)

Can be had in the 7th round? Yes

Why pick Dalton or Ponder or someone in the 2nd?

No QB's in the first 4 rounds. Too many holes and Fitz is a pretty good QB who this team does respond to. Get a backup QB in free agency this non-sense about drafting a QB for depth has to stop. There will be free agency and the team can find a decent QB to backup Fitz and have Brown and a late round QB (No earlier than the 5th round) compete for the 3rd string spot.

I have a feeling Von Miller will be the pick (Dareus will go in the top two picks) at number 3 and a OT, DE, DT, or MLB will be the pick in the second. Pretty much best player available at anyone of those positions. Then MLB or DE in the 3rd round.

If I had to pick the draft it would be Von Miller round 1 (Assuming Dareus is taken), the best available RT round 2, and the best MLB in round 3, Then in rounds 4 pick the two best run stuffing talents along the D-line.

Guest three3

i do like what i saw from dalton when i had the chance to watch him. but 2nd round is probably too early, he can be had later in the draft. i wouldn't have a problem risking a mid round or late round pick on him.

I like Dalton but we need a QB with elite talent and Dalton doesn't have it. He will be good but not great, see him as Jon Kitna.
