I can't believe I am saying this, but...

Doug Flutie is the answer to the obvious question. Think about it even if you hate his entire digestive system. We don't need to groom someone. We don't need a guy to go out there and win games by himself. We do need a sparkplug veteran who can mask the problems of the offensive line when it rears its ugly head. He is not going to divide the locker room like he did before. He can be a caretaker if Drew goes down for a few plays or games. He can learn an offense fast. He can be a slash player that MM likes. He won't cost a lot. He likely gets cut now that Rivers is signed and playing. He's not a threat to Drew or Losman or Travis Brown. It's POSSIBLE that we can win with him when the defense is good and we have all these weapons.

So go ahead, flame away, say no way in hell, but he is probably the best answer to a short term problem.

That is a nauseating thought. But yeah, you're right...

If we sign somebody, I won't really care who it is, just as long as it's not Rob Johnson or Ryan Leaf. I don't know if Flutie would be the answer either, I really think him just being on the roster would start up a lot more controversy than it would be worth.

I agree, but now SD will wait to cut him to see if they can get a trade...I don't know what his contract status is either--we may not have the cap room unless he is cut....

If it happens....

First meeting with MM and Sam---

MM: Doug--you are not here to compete for the starters job on the field or in the locker room. The first sign of any BS, you are on the street. You play if Drew is hurt--that's it....no mop up duty, second team reps in practice, etc.

SW: You understand that squirt....

DF: Yes I understand....

Kinda makes sense, and weirder things have happened...

I think the question is would Ralph support it?

Flutie's not going anywhere, the Chargers need someone to mentor their promising QB of the future named Drew Brees err I mean Phillip Rivers. I mean the Bills would never be so lucky to have a guy with Doug's leadership skills to help develop Rob Johnson err I mean JP Losman.

In just having him join the team it would start another media circus, we're all tired of a preseason RB contreversy I can only imagine a regular season one. I can see it in November "election" posters for the "Bledsoe and Henry" vs "Flutie and McGahee" or whatever combination.

Come on people look at Doug's track record and the QBs taht followed him, almost all have been pretty bad and do we want that to happen to JP losman. IS this Doug's fault? possibly no but it seems a strange coincidence.

You overlook another important factor - the ticket sale boost that bringing in Flutie would generate.

And the sideshows too. Step right up see the Statue vs The Midget...

Our fanbase and media would ruin it and rip it to shreads.

I missed the game. How many TD's did Drew Bledoe throw for this week?

Drew "ZERO TD'S" Bledsoe.

Let's hear from all the Drew lovers who predict the Bills will go 11-5 this year.

Dough "Skin" Flutie will not generate ticket sales. All but one game are near sellouts allready.

I do not want that midget here. He has never won a playoff game and I want someone here who can. He has been on the decline ever since leaving Buffalo. His record is 2-12 in his last 14 starts. He lost his last 9 starts in 2001 in SD.

No thank you.

I could really see Marty ditching Brees before Flutie to prevent a potential problem next year if Brees comes out and lights up the league before Rivers is ready to start. Rivers is gonna be the guy, Flutie is at least a reliable backup, Germaine is cheaper than Brees and comfortable with a #3 job. Brees could go, in which case, I'd be all over that.

Name me all of the legions of the playoff-winning, cheap, veteran, available, elusive, effective quarterbacks that you're going to bring in for half of a season instead. Okay, how about one?

Ever heard of Neil O'donnell. May not be the most elusive, but he meets all the other "criteria" that we must have to meet your standards.

Except available. he already turned down a few teams after him, including recently the New England Patriots. He has been approached by at least four teams in the last year and said no to all of them. The Patriots he said maybe in December if they're making a playoff run.

Just remember, he is a TD guy. If anyone can coax him to play, it would be the smooth TD.
