Jarius Byrd: the most overrated player on the bills

Byrd can't tackle, can't cover and doesn't hit anybody. Last year he had a bunch on interceptions on poorly thrown balls-that was a fluke. He was another wasted draft pick. He is our 4th best safety behind wilson, whitner, scott

Funny ... I was thinking Lee Evans is the most overrated player on the Bills. If someone has 2 or 3 INTs, they could be flukes. You don't get 9 INTs as a fluke.

Definitely NOT overrated. It is known he has some problems with run support. However, he is biggest playmaker in our secondary. When you don't have a pass rush, these are the guys that you need. The guy just makes plays something that is lacking with the rest of our defense. He is only in his 2nd year and has shown pretty good awareness with all his interceptions. While he needs to still work on a few things there is a ton of upside. Something that can't be said for Whitner, Scott, Wilson. Those 3 are what they are - good back up players on most NFL teams. Byrd would be one of the few untouchable players on this team IMO.

George is a far better player as it stands right now, let's not forget that Byrd is only a second year player returning from an injury. Tack on the fact that he's working with an entirely new coaching administration and defensive scheme. Give him time gugny is right, regardless of the quality of the interceptions he still got NINE interceptions so he had to be doing something right.

Also, Scott is not a backup. That guy hits harder than LBs twice his size and he can cover, name me one time you've seen Scott blow a coverage to the degree of Whitner.

The thing about byrd is, not only was he a league leader in interceptions, but he was a league leader in tipped balls as well. The guy is a ball hawk and is great.

The whole secondary (including byrd) isn't going to be as good as last year though. Last year we had kyle williams at DT and Schobol on the outside... the two of them were able to pressure the QB forcing him to throw into places with good coverage... this season, we have no schobol and williams is playing NT, which isn't easy to pressure the QB from.

No secondary, however amazing they are, cannot cover the wideouts when they have all day to try to get open. Without a pass rush, teams are going to be able to throw the ball like crazy on us, even with a great secondary. So yeah, our strongest unit isn't even going to be able to play good this year.... which sucks. We need a pass rush just like we need a QB.

Yes, because pro bowl safeties that finish 2nd in defensive rookie of the year voting that lead the NFL in Int's while not even playing a full 16 games are often overrated...

This has got to be one of the dumbest posts I have read and shows a startling lack of football IQ and understanding how things work in football...

1. Bryd had 9 INTs in like 10 games. Hardly a fluke. Rather, that's consistency and he rightly made the Pro Bowl.

2. He's playing hurt. Very hurt. He's got an injured groin that is hampering him. He's a tough guy, he played hurt last year too.

3. They're easing him back into it and he's gotta get his legs under him and comfortable due to his injury and missed time in camp.

4. A Free Safety is a range player. You lose some of your range when you have an injured groin. It's a simple as that.

5. QBs are more cautious of him and his knack for INTs.

6. The absolute lack of a pass rush has a direct and adverse impact on DBs and the turnovers they generate, or lack thereof.

Overrated? No.

Best defensive player on our team? Yes.

See Scott unable to cover Rob Gronkowski (4.65 in the 40-yard dash) for a touchdown, it was the 3rd or 4th quarter. In fact Whitner seemed to be the only safety up to covering tight ends Sunday as wilson got beat a bunch too. He was late on the TD to Moss, but they called press coverage on the down trying to prevent underneath pass No SS in the league covers Moss on the deep ball 4 from Press coverage. Brady had too much time.
