BB.com is reporting that they are going to keep him on the reserve list until he decides to retire. If he decides to play, then they'll seek out a way to trade him. They won't release him. He probably wants to play for a team that has a better chance of winning over the next couple of years. Not surprising, but he could've went about it in a more professional manner considering the Bills have allowed him to be set for life financially. He saw Peters and Clements force their way out of town. Precedent was set for him to do exactly what he is doing. He will wind up in Houston and whatever we get (if anything) won't be enough. Schobel was obviously not giving them what they wanted and they did the right thing. Good for Buddy and Chan for sticking to their guns and setting the tone for their expectations. Funny, he went about 'it' in the most professional manner he could, IMO. No hissy fits, no hold outs. He made it clear he wanted to play elsewhere, but didn't hold a gun to anyone's head. He left and never won anything after that, and The Bills began their reign of dominance in The AFC the very first season without him.
