Which of these scumsacks will make an impact on the team?

I think Hernandez was a steal in the fourth round.

In my opinion Brandon Spikes will help their front 7 but they are still very short on the D-line. They don't have a real good DE and they over drafted on Tight ends.

what is the Pats fascination with TE's? I do agree Hernandez is a steal at that point but don't care much for the other selections

Actually, this is one part of the PAts I really respect. TEs are very important and give your offense a ton of flexiblity. If you have a struggling OT, a good blocking TE is huge. TEs that are good receivers make it really hard for a defense to gain any tendancies on the offense.

We have lack quality TE play for a long time and that has been part of the problem with our offense. Hopefully between Nelson (I think he will be a stud if we can get him the ball), Matthews, and Schouman can gives us our best group in years.

I think that Gronkowski ends up being a top notch TE in this league if he can stay healthy. I think in two or three years that McCourtney will be a solid NFL CB. I also think they might have gotten a steal in Taylor Price, really like what he did in college.

Yeah, I like Gronkowski a lot but you don't have to worry about back injuries. They are very tough to shake.

I think for the number of picks they had that it's a pretty weak draft, I Like Gronkowski, Spikes, Hernandez, But not so much McCourty, Cunningham, Price- I would have gone Odrick DE, Cody NT, Everson Griffen OLB but then I like front 7 defense as much as Jauron likes DBs.

Try telling their fans that--I was reading one of their message boards the other day and they were already coronating this year's draft class (none of whom has ever played an NFL down) and last year's (uhhh, besides Edelman, did any of them even play much last year?) as two of the best drafts ever, I sh*t you not......

Patsies 2009 Draft

Round 2, Pick 2 (34) (From Chiefs) Patrick Chung SS 5'11" 212 Oregon

Pick Analysis:The Patriots pick up a tough, hard-hitting safety in Chung. Though he has some coverage deficiencies, Chung is a banger capable of serving as the enforcer in the Patriots' secondary. With Rodney Harrison unlikely to return, Chung clearly steps into his shoes.

Round 2, Pick 8 (40) (From Raiders) Ron Brace DT 6'3" 330 Boston College

Pick Analysis:The Patriots pick up the potential successor to Vince Wilfork at nose tackle. The hulking prospect excels at holding the point and is a solid run stuffer against single or double teams.

Round 2, Pick 9 (41) (From Packers) Darius Butler CB 5'11" 183 Connecticut

Pick Analysis:The Patriots add another talented defender to their secondary with the selection of Butler. The former Husky has outstanding movement and displays a tremendous burst closing to the ball. With the Patriots' secondary featuring a cast of aging veterans, Butler can serve as an apprentice for a year before stepping into the lineup as a starter.

Round 2, Pick 26 (58) Sebastian Vollmer OL 6'7" 312 Houston

Pick Analysis:The Patriots pick up an intriguing developmental prospect in Vollmer. The former Cougar started his college career as a tight end but he developed into a quality offensive tackle prospect as a senior. Though he lacks the athleticism to play left tackle as a pro, Vollmer has the size and length to develop into a starting right tackle in time.

Round 3, Pick 19 (83) (From Jets through Packers) Brandon Tate WR 6'0" 183 North Carolina

Pick Analysis:The Patriots nab one of the best multi-purpose players on the board with the selection of Tate. The former Tar Heel has the ability to score from anywhere on the field as a receiver or returner. Although he is coming off a torn ACL injury, he could become a big-time player in New England when he fully recovers.

Round 3, Pick 33 (97) (Compensatory selection) Tyrone McKenzie OLB 6'2" 243 South Florida

Pick Analysis:The Patriots add a high-motor edge player with the selection of McKenzie. The former Bull has exceptional hand skills and is a terrific player over the top of tight ends. In the Patriots' 3-4 defense, he will have a chance to contribute as a backup SAM linebacker.

Round 4, Pick 23 (123) (From Ravens) Rich Ohrnberger OG 6'2" 297 Penn State

Pick Analysis:This is a classic Patriots pick. Ohrnberger is a solid guy who is fundamentally sound with really good technique. They could train him to be a backup tackle as well as putting him at guard. Right now, he's a better run blocker than pass blocker. He will fill a utility role as a rookie and probably earn a starting job two years from now.

Round 5, Pick 34 (170) (Compensatory selection) George Bussey OT 6'3" 306 Louisville

Pick Analysis:The Patriots pick a massive offensive lineman who is projected to move inside to guard as a pro. Bussey is a developmental player who will have to earn his way onto a roster as a quality backup.

Round 6, Pick 25 (198) (From Ravens) Jake Ingram LS 6'3" 232 Hawaii

Pick Analysis:The Patriots lost their long snapper when he was signed this offseason by the Broncos, so they tabbed Hawaii's Ingram to replace him. Long snappers may not be exciting, but if you don't have one, they can cost you a game. Just ask Jim Fassel, whose Giants lost to the 49ers a few years ago because of a botched snap.

Round 6, Pick 34 (207) (Compensatory selection) Myron Pryor DT 6'0" 319 Kentucky

Pick Analysis:Pryor is a short defensive tackle who was a starter for a couple years and was a good run-stopper. He was productive in Kentucky and will add depth to the Patriots' defensive line.

Round 7, Pick 23 (232) (From Dolphins through Jaguars) Julian Edelman QB 5'11" 195 Kent State

Pick Analysis:Edelman will function in the Wildcat formation for the Patriots. He was unbelievably productive as a college quarterback and can make the club as a specialist in certain packages. He's an intriguing prospect for New England.

Round 7, Pick 25 (234) Darryl Richard DT 6'3" 303 Georgia Tech

Pick Analysis:Richard is a good leverage guy who can hold up against double teams. He can bull rush and is very smart. He fits well into the wave rush and can spell the Patriots' defensive linemen as the game goes on. But really, how many DTs do the Pats need? That's three so far in the draft.

I stand corrected--Vollmer and Edelman are the only two in that class who seemed to impress (at least me) last year. Brace didn't suit up for some games, and Chung and Butler didn't exactly set the world on fire, while Tate was on IR, IIRC......

And the Patsies 2008 Draft

Pick Player Pos Ht Wt College

Round 1, Pick 10 (10) (From Saints) Jerod Mayo OLB 6'1" 242 Tennessee

Pick Analysis:Mayo can play either inside or outside linebacker. He had 25 starts during his last two years at Tennessee. Mayo adds youth to a group of veteran linebackers in New England. He's known for his competitiveness and production.

Round 2, Pick 31 (62) Terrence Wheatley CB 5'9" 178 Colorado

Pick Analysis:With their linebacker need seemingly taken care of in the first round, the Patriots take a cornerback here. The Patriots may have found themselves a steal in Wheatley, considered a shutdown corner with speed. After sitting out the entire 2005 season following surgery to repair a broken wrist, Wheatley established himself as one of the most talented corners in his conference the last two years. He's also a talented kickoff returner.

Round 3, Pick 15 (78) (From Saints) Shawn Crable OLB 6'5" 241 Michigan

Pick Analysis:Crable is a big outside linebacker, who is a perfect fit for the Patriots. He does have thin legs, but you can use him in pass rushing situations and get some production for him. He had 16 sacks in college. While Crable is limited in pass coverage, he has great run-stopping skills and can be a good special teams coverage player.

Round 3, Pick 31 (94) Kevin O'Connell QB 6'5" 225 San Diego State

Pick Analysis:O'Connell came on like gangbusters in his senior season at San Diego State. The Patriots have struggled to develop a quarterback behind Tom Brady, but O'Connell will have time to develop and could become the backup.

Round 4, Pick 30 (129) Jonathan Wilhite CB 5'10" 185 Auburn

Pick Analysis:Wilhite was a junior college transfer to Auburn. He made 22 starts and ran very well with a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash. He has strong measurables across the board as well as 101 tackles in college. He is very good at flippping his hips and recovering in coverage, though he did have injury concerns in college.

Round 5, Pick 18 (153) (From Buccaneers) Matt Slater WR 5'11" 195 UCLA

Pick Analysis:The son of Jackie Slater, he is a great kick returner and took back three for touchdowns this year at UCLA. He is also very fast and ran a 4.4 at his Pro Day. He is a standout special teams player and fits the Patriots' schemes.

Round 6, Pick 31 (197) Bo Ruud OLB 6'4" 234 Nebraska

Pick Analysis:The younger brother of current Bucs middle linebacker Barrett Ruud. He has been a starting linebacker the past two years at Nebraska. He's not quite as talented as his older brother, but has some skills.

The dirty secret is that the Pats are 21-11 in the past two regular seasons (good enough for the Cy Young most seasons) and 49-15 in the past four.

And 0-1 in the postseason the last 2 years, including an embarassing home loss. Guess how many titles the Pats* have won since the cameras got exposed?

Obviously, it's better than the Bills but they also have one of the great QBs of all time. The Pats are not a powerhouse team anymore. They have an average running game and oline. Their defense struggles to rush the passer and thei defense isn't elite.

I still think they win the East because I think the division is very overrated. But they are winning the East because they have far and away teh best QB and not because they are a great time. The second Brady hangs them up, they are back to the bottom of the division.

The Bills in the postseason in those years -- 0-0. The Yankees didn't win anything between 2002 and 2008 either, but they were always in the hunt . Of course, they won last year.
