JuanGuzman Posted April 30, 2010 Share Posted April 30, 2010 So I was having Lunch in Toronto yesterday and a women comes up to me and tells me she is a casting agent, anyway long story short but an actor just quit a show, and she felt like my looks would be right for the part. I tell her her I have never acted before, but we exchange contact information. Anyway, she sends me an audition script for the role I'd be playing, a link to the website of the show and a blurb/backstory of the character she wants me to audition for. The audition is Monday. The show is part of cinemax's afterdark lineup, and as best I can tell it the dialogue, plot and story line only exist so that during every show the cast members can hook up during a scene. In her email she specifies "NO Frontal Nudity" but I may have to show my ass, take my shirt off and simulate other acts. Women are often topless in the show. The pay is "550$" dollars a day, I imagine the shoots are pretty long each day (16Hrs maybe). the positives and negatives as best I can see it. Negatives: * Well its soft core porn. * I have never acted before but if seeing myself on camera, or hearing myself on voice mails is any indication I'm a pretty exceptionally awkward person. Nor do I have any ambition of being an actor, so its not like this would be my first break which would hopefully lead me to a bigger and better things. I can't stress this enough - I can't act. * I have a BA in Economics, I'm currently working in my field and waiting to hear back from grad school. So I'm not in a desperate situation. * this could be the type of thing that haunts you as you get older, either extremely embarrassing for you/family and it could interfere with future job prospects. *the most realistic scenario to me is I show up for the audition and get cut cause I can't act. Also I'm pretty average looking guy I don't think I have ever been considered a hottie by anyone. Basically I was surprised as Sh*T when this woman asked me/ this type of thing hasn't happened to me before and I doubt ever will in the future. Positives: * well its soft core porn, the sheer hilarity factor alone has to be worth something * the most likely scenario I audition, I get cut, still leaves me with a pretty funny story to tell people. And I'll never wonder "what if" I had tried my luck in soft core porn. * the show starts shooting in mid may and they must be pretty desperate to fill the character if they are approaching people on the street, I guess the actor playing the part pulled out last minute, so if I have any advantage at all in the part its that there really desperate and won't be able to find the most qualified candidates. * the microscopic chance and we're talking a the smallest probability imaginable like 0.0001% that (1) I make the show (2) the show achieves even a moderate level of success (by cinemax after dark standards), and some how opens another opportunity for me. I've always believed in keeping your options open and feel like I should practice what I preach, but when I said keep options open I never imagined one of those options to be soft core porn. Any Thoughts? oh yeh in case anyone is wondering I just turned 25, recently moved to Toronto and I am single. ************** UPDATE ************************ Hey first of I just wanted to thank the wall for there input, I ended up going to the audition. And man was I awful at it. First things first it was a pretty legit casting agency, they had several projects going on the day auditions for the show, advertisements etc. Also HBO Canada`s name was at the bottom of all the release forms I signed Honestly and embarrassingly enough the first thing I noticed like 5-6 guys who were really good looking, looked like they worked out daily etc all holding the same script I had. Next I had to sign a consent form, and indicate I was comfortable with frontal nudity on camera. This was a surprise to me given that I was told by the casting agent specifically `no frontal nudity`anyway I guess they say what they need to to get people in. I signed the form anyway. So first things first went to a room and was photographed in boxer briefs, after that was done I went back into the room. Anyway I chatted with the guy to my left who also had not acted before, he was a sports fan so we riffed on the NHL playoffs and made fun jokes about being auditioning for soft core porn. I passed up several opportunities to read through my script with someone figuring just winging it would be the best (note to self horrible idea). Anyway I finally get called in to read, there are 3 people with notepads in front of them (2 serious looking men and one women), a camera man and an attractive women. we chat a little bit about this I tell them its my first audition etc, make a few jokes get a few laughs over all starting to feel comfortable. The next they they do is explain to me how audition will work, and that it will be filmed etc. Then all of the sudden the good looking women turns to me and says `hey is Lacey in` I slowly realize in horror that that she has just said the first lines of the script I was supposed to commit to memory, after a long pause the first words out of my mouth are `I can`t do this`not as the script should of read `shes not here yet, should`be in round 10.` Everyone is basically stunned and stare at me in shock then they tell me I can do the audition reading from the script, I hastily say yes. I cannot overstate how stupid I looked the very first words out of my mouth were I can`t do this!!!! Can`t believe I panicked like that anyway They hand me the script we take it for the top again, we re do it from the top. I noticed it took people about 15-20 minutes to audition, after I finished the scene the guy in charge told me `well now you can tell people you have auditioned for something`meaning there is no way in hell your getting this part. I laughed and thanked them for the opportunity. My audition couldn`t have been longer than 5 minutes. When I was outside the casting agent who inivited me asked me how it went I said horrible, she laughed and asked if should still contact me about other roles I said yes but I think she was just being nice. All in all, glad I went. I guess I should have put some more work in memorizing my lines, anyway I`m not sure who has the rights to video tape of my audition but I hope it gets burned cause not only was I horrible I`m also wearing this cheesy tank top. Tough choice. ahaaha while I don't think the choice is that clear cut , I hear your sentiment. Anyway right now I think I'll take it the next step and go to the audition.
